Herath Festival celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir

  • Herath or the ‘Night of Hara (Shiva)’, generally known as Maha Shivratri, is the main festival celebrated by the Kashmiri Pandits across Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
  • The festival marks the marriage anniversary of Lord Shiva and Goddess Uma (Parvathi). 2022 Herath Festival was celebrated on 28th February 2022. 
  • Herath Festival is celebrated on “Trayodashi” or the 13th day of the dark half of the month of Phalguna (Hindu calendar), between February and March. The Kashmiri Pandits celebrate the festival by distributing walnuts as a mark of respect to the Hindu deities.
  • The rest of the nation celebrates the Maha Shivratri on Chaturdashi or the 14th of Phalguna.

Adani Green got letter of award for setting-up 150 MW solar power plant project

  • Adani Green Energy Ltd stated that its subsidiary Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen Limited has obtained a letter of award (LOA) to build a 150-megawatt solar power plant. For a period of 25 years, the fixed rate for this project capacity is $2.34/kWh.
  • Adani Renewable Energy Holding Fifteen Limited participated in a Tender that was issued by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited for the acquisition of 250 MW Solar Power from ground-mounted grid-connected solar PV power plants and has received the Letter of Award for setting up a 150 MW Solar Power Project.
  • Adani Green presently has a totally renewable energy project portfolio of 20.434 MWac capacity, with 410 MWac of operational projects. According to the firm, 11,591 MWac projects are now under construction, with 3.433 MWac projects nearing completion.

International Monsoons Project Office launched at IITM, Pune

  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh has launched the International Monsoons Project Office (IMPO) at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune on the occasion of National Science Day.
  • For the first five years, the International Monsoons Project Office (IMPO) will be housed at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, which is part of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Indian government.
  • The establishment of the IMPO emphasises the importance of monsoons to the country’s economy. Under the guidance of the World Climate Research Programme and the World Weather Research Programme, it would cover activities and relationships relating to international monsoon research that would be recognised and supported.

  • According to Knight Frank’s 16th edition of The Wealth Report 2022, the number of ultra-high-net-worth-individuals (UHNWIs) globally increased by 9.3 percent in 2021 to 6,10,569, from 5,58,828 in 2020.
  • In India, the number of UHNWIs (individuals with net assets of US$ 30m (Rs 226 crore) or more) has grown by 11% year-on-year (YoY) in 2021 to 145 billionaires, the highest percentage growth in Asia – Pacific (APAC).
  • India ranked 3rd in billionaire population globally in 2021 with equity markets and digital adoption as the key factors driving the growth in India. India’s UHNWI is expected to grow by 39% from 2021 to 2026
  • The list has been topped by the United States (748) and China (554) respectively.
  • Bengaluru recorded the highest growth in the number of UHNWIs in 2021 at 17.1% to 352 billionaires. It was followed by Delhi (12.4% to 210) and Mumbai (9% to 1596) in 2021.

  • Chennai-based medical devices maker Trivitron Healthcare has acquired US-based the Kennedy Company, a leading manufacturer of radiation protection X-ray shielding material and acoustic barrier products.
  • Post integration, the new entity would become a part of Trivitron Healthcare Americas, operating as Kennedy Vinyl for the existing x-ray shielding and acoustic noise control business and Kennedy Radiology for radiation protection products manufactured in the US.
  • The organization would be led by Mr. Sesh Sarathy, who spearheaded Trivitron Group’s M&A efforts in North America, as president, sales, and business development.
  • The Kennedy Company founded by physicist David Kennedy in 1976, who worked on developing innovative acoustic barriers for NASA.

  • Reserve Bank of India canceled the license of Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank, Sangli, Maharashtra, as it did not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • With the cancellation of the licence, Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank Ltd has ceased to carry on banking business with effect from the close of business hours on 2 March.
  • On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to a monetary ceiling of Rs 5 lakh from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).

  • Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Mutual Fund Asset Management Limited appointed TS Ramakrishnan as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer. 
  • He will succeed Dinesh Pangtey, its former Whole-time Director and CEO.
  • TS Ramakrishnan joined LIC Mutual Fund AMC in April 2021. He has experience of around 34 years at LIC and its subsidiaries/associate companies.

NASA launched next-generation GOES-T satellite for NOAA to track hazardous weather

  • US space agency, NASA, successfully launched the third in a series of four next-generation weather satellitesGeostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES), from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida.
  • The satellite is named as GOES-T. Once the satellite gets positioned in its geostationary orbit it will be renamed from GOES-T to GOES-18.
  • GOES-T will be used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to forecast weather and hazardous environmental conditions in the Western Hemisphere.

Bollywood film critic, writer Jaiprakash Chouksey passed away

  • Film critic, writer Jaiprakash Chouksey passed away at his home in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city.
  • Chouksey, 82, had been suffering from lung cancer for the last seven years and his condition had deteriorated over the last three months, according to the film writer’s son Raju Chouksey.
  • Chouksey has penned scripts and dialogues for several films including ‘Shayad’ (1979), ‘Qatl’ (1986), and ‘Bodyguard’ (2011), and was also involved in writing for television serials.
