Bhubaneswar becomes first Indian city to vaccinate 100% against COVID-19
- Bhubaneswar has become the first Indian city to achieve 100 per cent COVID-19 vaccination. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) had launched a massive vaccination drive against Covid-19.
- This milestone is credited to the BMC running 55 centres at all times for vaccines. 5 lakh 17 thousand people are in the age group of 18 to 44 years. Three lakh twenty-five thousand people are above 45 years of age.

Shehroze Kashif becomes world’s youngest mountaineer to scale K2
- A 19-year old Pakistani climber Shehroze Kashif became the youngest person in the world to reach the summit of K2, the second-highest peak in the world.
- Shehroze Kashif from Lahore achieved the feat of scaling the 8,611-metre high peak with the aid of bottled oxygen.

India and World Bank sign $250 million project to make existing dams safe and resilient
- The Government of India, the Central Water Commission, government representatives from 10 participating states and the World Bank signed a $250 million project for long-term dam safety program and improving the safety and performance of existing dams across various states of India.
- The project will be implemented in approximately 120 dams across the states of Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

Appointment
Mini Ipe appointed as LIC MD
- Mini Ipe has taken charge as Managing Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India. She was named by the Centre on July 5 this year. Ipe was previously Executive Director of LIC’s Legal Department.
- A postgraduate in Commerce from Andhra University, Ipe had joined LIC in 1986 as a direct recruit officer.

Bvlgari appoints Priyanka Chopra as its global brand ambassador
- Italian luxury brand Bvlgari has appointed actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas as global brand ambassador. She will support the Roman high jewellery house in amplifying the brand around the world, with a particular focus on themes of women empowerment, diversity and inclusion.
- Bvlgari is known for its gemstone jewellery, watches, fragrances, accessories and leather goods.

Operation Blue Freedom: Team Of Special Forces Veterans
- The government of India has accorded sanctions to Team CLAW to lead a team of people with disabilities to scale Siachen Glacier. It will be a new world record for the largest team of people with disabilities.
- This expedition is being undertaken as part of ‘Operation Blue Freedom’. It aims to shatter the common perception of pity, charity, and inability associated with people with disabilities and recreate it to one of dignity, freedom, and ability.

USA beats Mexico 1-0 to won CONCACAF Gold Cup
- United States clinched an exhilarating 1-0 extra-time win over defending champion Mexico to claim a seventh CONCACAF Gold Cup. Just three minutes were left in extra time when the US defender head-butted a cross by Kellyn Acosta past Mexican goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera.
- This was the American team’s first Gold Cup title since 2017 and avenged a defeat to Mexico in 2019 final.

Lovlina Borgohain won boxing bronze at Tokyo Olympics
- Lovlina Borgohain won India’s third medal – a bronze – at the Tokyo Olympics after losing to Turkish world champion Busenaz Surmeneli in their 69kg semifinal bout on 4th August.
- She becomes only the second Indian woman pugilist and third overall, after Vijender Singh (bronze in 2008) and Mary Kom (bronze in 2012) to climb the podium. However, the 23-year-old was not satisfied with the result.
Obituary
Padma Shri awardee Dogri writer and poet Padma Sachdev passes away
- Noted author and Padma Shri awardee Padma Sachdev, the first modern woman poet of Dogri language, passed away at a Mumbai hospital on 4th August.
- She authored many books in Dogri and Hindi, and her poetry collections, including ‘Meri Kavita Mere Geet’, won her the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1971. She received the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2001 and was awarded the Kabir Samman for poetry for 2007-08 by the Madhya Pradesh government.
