Rajasthan announced ‘Camel Protection and Development Policy’ with Rs 10 crores budget

  • Rajasthan state government has announced a ‘Camel Protection and Development Policy’ in its budget 2022-23. 
  • According to the government figures, less than two lakh camels are left in Rajasthan, and in the entire country, the number of camels has reduced by 1.5 lakh since 2012. There were about 2.5 lakh camels left when counted last in 2019.
  • Camel is the state animal of Rajasthan and their number is continuously decreasing. The Rajasthan government had declared the camel as the state animal in 2014. About 85 percent of the country’s camels are found in Rajasthan followed by Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Telangana topped the country in terms of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product at Current Prices

Telangana topped the country in terms of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product at Current Prices

  • Telangana became the top-performing state in India with a population over one crore in terms of the growth rate of Per Capita Net State Domestic Product at Current Prices by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
  • It succeeded other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The Gross State Domestic Price (GSDP) of Telangana increased from Rs 359434 crores in 2011-12 to Rs 1,154,860 crores in 2021-22. 
  • It recorded GSDP growth by 31.12 percent from 2011-12. It is one of the highest growth rates for any state in the country.
  • In terms of the percentage growth in GSDP, Telangana has shown the most rapid increase in its growth rate by around 17% from 2020 to the present.
  • Major projects include Rythu Bandhu scheme for farmers, the world’s largest lift irrigation Kaleshwaram project to provide water to the fields, and Arogya Laxmi scheme for pregnant and lactating women.

Centre approved ‘Modernisation Plan-IV for Central Armed Police Forces’ (CAPFs) scheme

  • The Government has approved the scheme – Modernisation Plan-IV for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in continuation of the scheme “Modernisation Plan-III for CAPFs. It will run from 1st Feb 2022 to 31st March 2026.
  • Modernisation Plan-IV for CAPFs with a total financial outlay of Rs.1,523 crore is to be implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs under guidance of Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah and will equip the CAPFs with modern state-of-the-art weapons and equipment as per their operational requirement, keeping in view their deployment pattern in different theatres.

Reliance Industries opened country’s ‘largest business, commerce and cultural hub’ in Mumbai

  • Reliance Industries (RIL) has announced opening of India’s largest business, commerce and cultural destination‘The Jio World Centre’. It is spread across 5 acres at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai.
  • The initial launches are Dhirubhai Ambani Square, the musical Fountain of Joy and The Jio World Convention Centre.
  • It will also include a cultural centre, a musical fountain, an upscale retail experience, curated selection of cafés, fine dining restaurants, etc.

India’s first FSRU “Hoegh Giant” arrived at Jaigarh Terminal, Maharashtra

  • India’s first Floating Storage and Regasification Unit(FSRU), Höegh Giant which sailed from Keppel Shipyard, Singapore has arrived at H-Energy’s Jaigarh Terminal in Maharashtra that has chartered the FSRU for 10 years.
  • This will be the 1st year-round Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal which is located at JSW Jaigarh Port in the Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. The Jaigarh port is the 1st deepwater, 24×7 operational private port in Maharashtra.
  • Höegh Giant was built in2017 with storage capacity of 170,000 cubic metres and installed regasification capacity of 750 million cubic feet per day (that equals to about 6 million tonnes a year).
  • This will deliver regasified LNG to the 56-km longJaigarh-Dabhol natural gas pipeline, connecting the LNG terminal to the national gas grid.

India signed Host Country Agreement with ITU for establishment of Area Office & Innovation Centre at New Delhi

  • The Government of India has signed the Host Country Agreement (HCA) with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for the establishment of an Area Office & Innovation Centre of ITU in New Delhi.
  • The Host Country Agreement provides the legal and financial framework for the establishment and operations of the Area Office.
  • The Area Office and Innovation Centre of ITU at New Delhi will serve South Asian countries comprising of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and India.
  • The agreement was signed between Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications, and H.E. Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of ITU, in a virtual ceremony during the World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly-20 (WTSA-20) being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

  • Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) released the 9th edition of Down To Earth’s annual ‘State of India’s Environment Report 2022’ at the 4-day long Anil Agarwal Dialogue organised by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) at CSE’s state-of-the-art residential environmental training facility, the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), in Nimli, Alwar district, Rajasthan. 
  • As per the report, India has been ranked at 120th position in the Sustainable Development Report 2021 or Sustainable Development Index 2021.
  • In this Index, countries are ranked by a score out of 100. India has a score of 60.07. Last year India’s rank was 117.
  • The Index measures the country’s total progress towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Index has been topped by

United Nations Environment Assembly 5.2 held in hybrid form in Nairobi, Kenya

  • The Fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) was held in hybrid form on February 28 – March 2, 2022 on the theme ‘Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals’. It was held in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • UNEA-5.2 was followed by a Special Session of the UNEA, UNEP@50, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the creation of UNEP in 1972. It was also held online and in person in Nairobi on March 3-4, 2022 under the overall theme of ‘Strengthening UNEP for the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.
  • Heads of State, Ministers of environment and other representatives from 175 nations endorsed a historic resolution titled ‘End Plastic Pollution: Towards an internationally legally binding instrument’ to end plastic pollution and forge an international legally binding agreement by 2024. Special Session UNEP@50 was attended by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

2022 Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain; Focused on 5G and Economic Recovery

  • The MWC-22 focused on increasing the global connectivity of the 5G network and economic recovery.
  • Global Mobile Economy Report expects 5G connections globally to reach 1 billion in 2022 by 5G adoption. Increase in the 5G network connection will increase the global GDP by 5% up to$5 trillion in 2025.
  • Global telecom industry to invest$600 billion till 2025 in the global mobile industry’s capital expenditure (CAPEX) and 85% of it will be spent on 5G.

  • Axis Bank has signed MoU with IPE Global limited for strengthening India’s healthcare infrastructure by providing affordable finance of up to $150 million (about Rs 1,140 crore) through SAMRIDH.
  • SAMRIDH stands for ‘Sustainable Access to Markets and Resources for Innovative Delivery of Healthcare’.
  • Under this partnership, Axis Bank will provide affordable finance of up to $150 million through SAMRIDH, to support health enterprises and innovators who would otherwise not have access to affordable debt financing.

Paytm partnered with IRCTC to offer digital ticketing services through ATVM

  • Paytm owned by One97 Communications Limited expanded its partnership with Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to offer digital ticketing services to consumers through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) installed at railway stations across India.
  • This is the first time that Indian Railways is offering the option to pay for ticketing services digitally via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on ATVMs to promote cashless commuting among railway passengers.
  • This is in line with Paytm’s efforts to promote cashless transactions and digital payments across India. Under this partnership between Paytm and IRCTC, the Paytm Quick Response (QR) solution at ATVM, will allow the passengers to enable complete cashless commutes.
  • The ATVMs are touch-screen-based ticketing kiosks that allow the railway passengers to pay digitally and enable them to purchase unreserved train journey tickets, platform tickets, renew their seasonal tickets and recharge smart cards by scanning QR codes generated on the screens.

Aman Lekhi resigned as Additional Solicitor General of India

  • Senior Advocate Aman Lekhi has resigned as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) at the Supreme Court with immediate effect on 4th March 2022.
  • Reason for his resignation is not clear yet. He was appointed as the ASG in March 2018 and was re-appointed from July 1, 2020, for a period of three years till June 30, 2023.
  • Additional Solicitor General of India (ASG) is the law officer of India, who is considered the third-ranking lawyer of the Government of India.

BCCI announced RuPay as the official partner for Tata IPL 2022

  • Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council announced National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)‘s flagship product RuPay as an official partner for the Tata IPL 2022. This will be a multi-year partnership.

Australian cricket legend Shane Warne passed away at 52

  • Australian spin legend Shane Warne has passed away of a suspected heart attack at the age of 52.
  • Warne, widely regarded as the greatest spinner to play the sport, played 145 Tests for Australia and has 708 wickets– a figure only surpassed by Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan.
  • He also won the 1999 ODI World Cup and 1001 international wickets. Shane Warn took more wickets than any other bowler in Ashes cricket, the tally standing at 195.
  • In 2013, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. He also won the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League as the captain of Rajasthan Royals.

Former Punjab Governor & Indian Army Chief General S F Rodrigues passes away

  • General Sunith Francis Rodrigues, who had served as Chief of the Indian Army from 1990 to 1993 passes away at the age of 88 years. He was also the Governor of Punjab from 2004 to 2010.
  • He had served two terms on the National Security Advisory Board. Since his retirement, he has been engaged in social and literary pursuits and has also delivered numerous talks on strategic issues.

Former Australian cricketer Rod Marsh passed away 

  • Former Australia cricketer (wicketkeeper) Rodney William Marsh has passed away in Adelaide Australia.
  • Rod Marsh has played 96 test matches for Australia from 1970 to 1984 and 92 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia and later retired from top-flight cricket in February 1984.
  • He was the 1st Australian wicketkeeper to score a century in test cricket and finished his career with 3 centuries. He held a test record of 355 dismissals by a wicketkeeper, including 95 off the bowling of pace bowler Dennis Lillee.
