Niger President Bazoum Names Mahamadou as New Prime Minister

  • Niger President Mohamed Bazoum appointed Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou to head his new cabinet as the country’s new prime minister, the government announced on public broadcaster Office de Radiodiffusion Television du Niger.
  • Mahamadou, 66, previously served as a minister in charge of the finance and mining portfolios. He was the chief of staff to former President Mahamadou Issoufou between 2015 and 2021.

Indian Army Officer Bharat Pannu Breaks 2 Guinness World Records For Fastest Solo Cycling

  • Indian Army’s Lieutenant Colonel Bharat Pannu has earned two Guinness World Records for his fastest solo cycling feats from October 2020.
  • The first record was created when Lt Col Pannu cycled from Leh to Manali (472 km distance) on October 10, 2020, in just 35 hours and 25 minutes.
  • Lt Col Pannu created a second record when he cycled the 5,942-km-long ‘Golden Quadrilateral’ route, which connects Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, in 14 days, 23 hours and 52 minutes.

ADB approves 484 million USD for CKIC Project

ADB approves 484 million USD for CKIC Project

  • The Asian Development Bank recently approved 484 million USD for CKIC (Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor) in Tamil Nadu. The project will upgrade 590 km of state highways in the CKIC influence areas.
  • The Climate Change adaptation measures are to be incorporated in the highway upgrades. This includes improved drainage, resizing of bridges and culverts, raised road embankments in critical sections.
  • The project is to strengthen road safety programmes through advanced technologies for road monitoring. The project will also improve the planning capacity of Tamil Nadu Highway and Minor Ports Department.

Vivo ropes in Virat Kohli as brand ambassador

  • Chinese smartphone major Vivo on 8th April said it has appointed cricketer Virat Kohli as its brand ambassador. With the association, Vivo aims to reach the millennials and technologically driven consumers, and a 360-degree marketing approach will characterise the company’s association with Kohli.
  • Kohli will be seen spreading awareness and promoting the launch of Vivo’s upcoming product series in the pipeline.

Indian Navy participate in multi-lateral maritime exercise La Pérouse

  • Indian Navy Ships INS Satpura and INS Kiltan alongwith P8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft are participating, for the first time in multilateral maritime exercise La Pérouse, being conducted in the Eastern Indian Ocean Region from 5th to 7th April 2021.
  • “The Indian Navy ships and aircraft will exercise at sea with ships and aircraft of French Navy (FN), Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) and United States Navy (USN) during the three day exercise at sea.
  • The first edition of La Pérouse joint exercise, initiated by France in 2019, included ships from Australia, Japan and the US. The exercise is named after the eighteenth century French Naval explorer.
  • India’s participation in 2021 completed the QUAD force representation in the French led Naval Exercise.
  • It will witness complex and advanced naval operations including surface warfare, anti-air warfare and air defence exercises, weapon firing exercises, cross deck flying operations, tactical manoeuvres and seamanship evolutions such as replenishment at sea.

  • The updated version of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s book named ‘Exam Warriors’ was launched. The book gives out various suggestions to both students and parents to deal with the examination pressure and stress.
  • The book raises awareness on topics like mental health, the role of technology and time management.

09 April: CRPF Valour Day

  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Valour Day (Shaurya Diwas) is observed on 9 April every year, as a tribute to the brave men of the Force. 2021 marks the 56th CRPF Valour Day.
  • About: It was on this day in 1965, a small contingent of CRPF created history by defeating an invading Pakistani army, several time larger, at the Sardar Post located in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.  The CRPF men eliminated 34 Pakistani soldiers and captured four alive. In the conflict, CRPF lost six personnel who had attained martyrdom.


Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passes away at 99

  • Prince Philip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has died. The 99-year-old royal passed away just months before his 100th birthday in June.
  • He had retired from public duties in 2017 at the age of 96.
