Exp. Telangana launched ‘Nethanna Ku Bima’ Scheme for weavers

Telangana Government has launched ‘Nethanna Ku Bima’ Scheme, an insurance scheme, which covers handloom and power loom weavers in the State.

This scheme was launched by Telangana Handlooms Minister, KT Rama Rao virtually on the occasion of National Handloom Day.

The insurance coverage scheme will be implemented in association with LIC.

In case of natural or accidental death of a weaver Rs. 5 lakh would be deposited into the nominees’ account within 10 days.

Exp. Samudrayaan mission to send humans 6,000 meters deep in ocean

The Indian government will soon start its mega ocean mission called ‘Samudrayaan’ to unlock the mysteries in the heart government of deep water.

With this mission, India will be joining the elite club of nations such as the US, Russia, Japan, France, and China to have niche technology and vehicles to carry out subsea activities.

Samudrayaan Mission is aimed to develop a self-propelled manned submersible to carry three human beings to a water depth of 6,000 m in the ocean with a suite of scientific sensors and tools for deep ocean exploration.

Developed indigenously, MATSYA 6000 is a manned submersible vehicle.

It will facilitate the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) in conducting deep ocean exploration. It has an endurance of 12 hours of operational period and 96 hours in case of emergency.

Exp. Microsoft becomes first company to join ONDC network

Microsoft has become the first multinational technology firm to join the government’s open network for digital commerce (ONDC) platform.

The US-based technology behemoth intends to introduce social e-commerce or a group buying experience in the Indian market through the entry.

Through ONDC it intends to introduce social e-commerce in the Indian market.

It will also launch a shopping app in India which will be available on the ONDC network.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has inaugurated the 22nd ‘Bharat Rang Mahotsav’ at Rabindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai.

It is a 5-day theatre festival which is being organized by the National School of Drama under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign.

The festival will showcase plays of renowned theatre directors based on the life and sacrifices of our freedom fighters.

Exp. Amit Shah launched onboarding of cooperatives on GeM portal

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has launched the onboarding of cooperatives on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.

The move will allow cooperatives to procure through the GeM portal like other government buyers—Central and state ministries, departments, public sector enterprises, autonomous institutions and local bodies.

Over 300 cooperatives have been onboarded as buyers on the GeM portal to enable them to purchase goods and services at competitive prices.

Exp. Indian Bank signed an MoU with SRM University-AP for starts up

Indian Bank has signed an MoU with Hatchlab Research Centre, TBI of SRM University-AP to launch ‘IND Spring Board’.

It is an initiative for financing start-ups and MSMEs.

The bank will extend financial aid of up to Rs 50 crore to start-ups incubated at SRM Hatchlab for their working capital requirements.

This collaboration is one of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

An Indian professor, Ramadhar Singh has been marked on the ‘Heritage Wall of Fame’ of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) in the USA.

Currently, he is a professor at the Amrut Mody School of Management of Ahmedabad University.

The Ohio State University, Columbus had nominated Ramadhar Singh for induction to the ‘Heritage Wall of Fame’.

SPSP established in 1974, is the world’s largest organization of personality and social psychologists.

Exp. Tennis legend Serena Williams announced retirement

American legend Serena Williams winner of 23 Grand Slam titles has announced her retirement from tennis.

Serena will play her last match at the US Open, which is starting on August 29.

Serena is the only woman to have recorded more than 65 wins across all four Grand Slams.

She last won a Grand Slam title in 2017 at the Australian Open.

She has been ranked singles world number one by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks.

Exp. 44th Chess Olympiad concluded; India’s men & women team won bronze medal

The 44th Chess Olympiad, which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Chennai on 28 July.

India competed in the tournament with three teams in the Men’s Section and three teams in the Women’s section.

India ‘B’ team comprising D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Raunak Sadhwaniand and Adhiban won the bronze medal beating Germany.

India ‘B’ team settled for a bronze medal in the Open section while India ‘A’ women’s team finished third.

The Uzbekistan team won the gold medal in the men’s section.

The next edition of the Chess Olympiad will be held in Budapest in Hungary in 2024.

Sunil Chhetri and Manisha Kalyan have been named the AIFF Men’s and Women’s Footballer of the year respectively for the 2021-22 season.

Chhetri has been honoured for the seventh time with this award. While Kalyan was first Women’s Footballer of the Year award.

Chhetri, the third highest goal scorer among active international players, was first named for the award in 2007. He then went on to win it in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018-19 seasons.

The Bharat Chhodo Andolan or Quit India movement was started on August 8, 1942.

The All India Congress Committee under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch this movement at the Bombay session.

It was during this time that the famous slogan ‘Do or die’ was given by MK Gandhi.

The movement was however suppressed in 1944.

World Biofuel Day is observed every year on 10 August

Objective – To create awareness about the importance of non-fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels.

This day also honors the research experiments by Sir Rudolf Diesel who ran an engine with peanut oil in the year 1893.

Veteran Marathi actor Pradeep Patwardhan passed away recently.

He was known for his performance in films such as “Chashme Bahaddar”, “Ek Shodh” and “Mee Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy”

The actor also starred in Bollywood films including Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet.

Pradeep Patwardhan was well-known for his work in theatre, with Moruchi Mavashi being his most popular play.
