Exp. NTCA forms new committee to oversee Cheetah project
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) set up an 11-member Cheetah Project Steering Committee. Rajesh Gopal, general secretary of the Global Tiger Forum, has been appointed as the chairman of the committee.
The committee works under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The move comes following the death of six cheetahs, including three newborn cubs, within a period of two and half months at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh.
In the last one week, three cheetah cubs born to the Namibian cheetah allegedly died of dehydration and malnourishment.
The decision to form the committee was taken in a meeting with the additional chief secretary of the Madhya Pradesh government.
The committee will also take decisions on the opening of the cheetah habitat for eco-tourism and suggest regulations in this regard.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the new parliament building and installed a historic sceptre ‘Sengol’ near the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chair.
A puja and a multi-faith prayer were held on the occasion. He also unveiled a commemorative plaque for the new building.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Adheenam seers were present at the event. The seers handed over the ‘Sengol’ to PM Modi who walked into the new Parliament building and installed it.
Modi also launches a 75 rupees denomination coin and stamp on the historic occasion. The new building of Parliament symbolizes the spirit of self-reliant India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
