The government has extended the unemployment scheme, the Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana, under the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation for a period of two years up to June 30, 2024.
It has been decided to extend the Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana for the period 01.07.2022 to 30.06.2024 with the relaxed eligibility conditions and enhanced rate of relief.
This is the third extension to the scheme with two extensions given each in 2020 and 2021 to financially support ESIC beneficiaries who had lost jobs during the pandemic.
Launched in 2018 on a pilot basis for a period of two years, the Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana provides relief in the form of cash compensation up to 90 days to the insured persons (IPs) under ESIC who have become unemployed.
However, with the outbreak of Covid and subsequent lockdown, the government extended the unemployment scheme while also relaxing the eligibility criteria and enhancing the compensation amount.
The existing benefits under the scheme include enhanced rate of unemployment relief of 50% of wages as against 25% earlier along with relaxation in eligibility conditions which includes availing benefit after 30 days from date of unemployment.
As per the government data, 66,013 employees availed unemployment benefits under the scheme Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) and an amount of Rs 87.83 crores were disbursed between July 1, 2018 and December 12, 2022.

In 2020 as well, MP had the highest crime rate against SCs, and in the previous year, it ranked second after Rajasthan.
According to the NCRB data, MP had a crime rate of 63.6 against SCs in 2021, against the national average of 22.6.
Rajasthan ranked second in crimes against people belonging to the SC community with a rate of 60.8.
The crimes include all crimes/atrocities committed against SCs and not just those which was filed under the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act.
In terms of the number of incidences or cases against the people belonging to the SC community, Uttar Pradesh topped the list with 9,492 cases, followed by Rajasthan (7,435) and MP (7,211).
In this category, 45,610 cases were reported during the year under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The number of pending cases under the Act from the previous year stands at 17,146.
Crimes against people belonging to the ST community
Kerala topped the list of the highest crime rate against people belong to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community with a rate of 26.4, against a national average of 8.1. Rajasthan (22.7) was ranked second, followed by Madhya Pradesh (17.2).
In terms of the number of incidences or cases against the people belonging to the ST community, MP topped the list with 2,627 cases, followed by Rajasthan (2,101) and Odisha (676).
In this category, 8,475 cases were reported during the year under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. As many as 2,711 cases were pending under the Act from the previous year, the data shows.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the new International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex ‘Bharat Mandapam’ in Delhi.
The International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) complex has been developed at a cost of about ₹2,700 crore.

Dr Baruch Samuel Blumberg, also known as Barry Blumberg, a physician, and geneticist, discovered the hepatitis B virus in 1967 and developed the first vaccine for hepatitis B and was awarded the Nobel Prize for the same. 28 July marks his birthday and has been chosen as World Hepatitis Day to honor his achievements and contributions.
In 2008, World Hepatitis Alliance in coordination with different patient groups declared May 19 as the first global World Hepatitis Day but later, a resolution was passed during World Health Assembly in 2010 to change the date to July 28 to commemorate the work of Dr Baruch Samuel Blumberg.
