Exp. Centre released Rs. 830 crores to Odisha for Jal Jeevan Mission implementation

Centre has released over Rs 830 crores to Odisha to expedite the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the state.

Odisha has planned to become Har Ghar Jal State in 2024. Out of around 85 lakh rural households in the state, around 41% households have tap water supply in their homes.

Jal Jeevan Mission was announced on 15th August 2019, with the aim to provide assured tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.

Exp. PM Modi laid foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut

PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Major Dhyan Chand Sports University at Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The University will be established at Salawa and Kaili villages of Sardhana town in Meerut at an estimated cost of about 700 crores.

The University will have the capacity of training 1080 sportspersons, including 540 female and 540 male sportspersons.

The Losar Festival in Ladakh is celebrated at the onset of the New Year in the traditional schedule of Tibetan Buddhism. It is celebrated by the Buddhist Community in the Ladakh region.

The Losar is a 15 days festival, from the start of the Tibetan Lunar calendar, marking the 1st day of the 11 month in Tibetan Calendar. Losar is a Tibetan word which means ‘New Year’.

Exp. France took over European Union Presidency for six months till June 30 2022

France has assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union with effect from January 01, 2022.

The country will continue to hold the EU presidency for the next six months till June 30, 2022. This is the 13th time that France has taken over the rotating presidency. The motto of France as EU President is “recovery, strength, belonging.” Upon the completion of six months presidency, France will be replaced by the Czech Republic.

Exp. Government collected Rs 1.29 Lakh crores as GST of December 2021

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of December 2021 was over Rs 1.29 lakh crore, 13% higher than the same month in 2020.

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of December 2021 is ₹ 1,29,780 crore, of which CGST is ₹ 22,578 crore, SGST is ₹ 28,658 crore, IGST is Rs 69,155 crore (including Rs 37,527 crores collected on import of goods) and cess is Rs 9,389 crore.

The average monthly gross GST collection for the third quarter (October-December) of the current year has been Rs 1.30 lakh crore against the average monthly collection of Rs 1.10 lakh crore and Rs 1.15 lakh crore in the first and second quarter, respectively.

Exp. RBI approved Fino Payments Bank for international remittance business

Reserve Bank of India has approved Fino Payments Bank for commencing international (Cross Border) remittance business under the Money Transfer Service Scheme (MTSS).

The approval will enable the customers of Fino Payments Bank to receive money sent from foreign countries.

The Bank plans to implement the service in its mobile applications as well and it also plans to partner with more leading money transfer operators (MTOs) to improve its cross-border remittance.

Exp. Tech Mahindra acquired 100% equity shares in Allyis India & Green Investments LLC

Tech Mahindra announced that its subsidiary, Tech Mahindra (Americas) Inc. is set to acquire 100 % equity shares in Allyis India Private Ltd and Green Investments LLC, a holding company for United States (US) based Allyis Group.

Tech Mahindra will pay USD 125 million (~INR 900 crore) including employment and performance earnout. It will help in improving marketing, instructional design, engineering: cloud & automation and other technical operations of the company.

Exp. Nippon India MF launched India’s first Auto Exchange Traded Fund

Nippon Life India Asset Management Limited (NAM India), the asset manager of Nippon India Mutual Fund (NIMF) launched a New Fund Offer (NFO) for Nippon India Nifty Auto Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).

It is India’s First Auto sector ETF. The scheme will provide exposure to top 15 companies of auto sectors such as automobiles 4 wheelers, automobiles 2 & 3 wheelers, auto ancillaries, and tyres.

The Nippon Auto ETF will start operation from January 5, 2022 to January 14, 2022. The minimum investment amount required Rs 1,000 and in multiples of Re 1 aftermath.

Exp. Vinod Kannan took over as CEO of Vistara airlines

Vinod Kannan took over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Vistara airline.

He replaced Leslie Thng, who was the CEO from July 2017 to December 31, 2021. Deepak Rajawat has been elevated to the role of Vistara’s chief commercial officer.

Vistara is a 51:49 joint venture between Tata Sons Private Limited and Singapore Airlines (SIA).

Exp. Sudan’s PM Abdalla Hamdok announced resignation amid political deadlock

Prime Minister of Sudan Abdalla Hamdok has announced his resignation amid political deadlock and protests in the capital city Khartoum, Sudan.

Hamdok, a former UN official seen as the civilian face of Sudan’s transitional govt, was reinstated in November amid international pressure in a deal that called for an independent technocratic cabinet under military oversight led by him.

Previously, Abdalla Hamdok was appointed as the Prime Minister of Sudan, after the overthrow of Dictator Omar al-Bashir who ruled the country for 30 years.

Zishaan A Latif won Ramnath Goenka Award in the Photo Journalism category.

He won the award for his photo essay, The arduous struggle for inclusion in the NRC, which was published in The Caravan in October 2019.

He documented the plight of people who were dropped from the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and put a face to an untold human story.

Exp. Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez announced retirement from International Cricket

Veteran Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez, who captained his national team in every format of the game, has announced his retirement from international cricket.

He represented Pakistan in 392 international matches in which he scored 12,789 runs and took 253 wickets.

Overall, Hafeez played in three 50-over World Cups (2007, 2011 and 2019), six 20-over World Cups (2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2021) and three ICC Champions Trophies (2006, 2013 and 2017).

World Braille Day is annually celebrated on 4 January to commemorate the birthday of Braille inventor, Louis Braille.

The day aims to recognize the right of access to braille by blind people and raise awareness of the importance of braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people.

Bollywood film producer Vijay Galani has passed away. He was suffering from blood cancer and was in London for seeking treatment.

He is known for producing films like Salman Khan’s Suryavanshi (1992), Akshay Kumar’s Ajnabee (2001), Salman Khan’s Veer (2010). His last production venture was Vidyut Jammwal and Shruti Haasan’s The Power (2021).
