Exp.Ukrainian Mathematician Maryna Viazovska has become the second woman ever to win the Fields medal 2022 often referred to as the Nobel Prize for mathematics.

She is the second woman to win the Fields Medal after Maryam Mizakhani (Iranian), who received the prize in 2014.

The other winners were French mathematician Hugo Duminil-Copin,  Korean-American mathematician June Huh, and British mathematician James Maynard.

The International Mathematical Union said Ms. Viazovska, who holds the chair in number theory at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne, was being honored for her work on the densest packing of identical spheres in eight dimensions.

Exp. Private life insurer Aviva Life Insurance Company India has appointed Asit Rath as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

He will succeed Amit Malik who is leaving the business after 10 years.

Exp. Freedom fighter P. Gopinathan Nair passed away at the age of 100.

P Gopinathan Nair was known for following Gandhian ideology in his life and was honoured with the Padma award. He had participated in the freedom struggle.

Gopinathan Nair had taken part in the Quit India Movement of 1942 and had worked alongside Vinoba Bhave to promote Bhoodan and Gramdan movements.

The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of Padma Shri in 2016 for his contributions to society.

Exp. India’s ​Lieutenant General Mohan Subramanian has been appointed the Force Commander in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

Subramanian succeeds Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar of India.
