Chhattisgarh Approves ₹500 Crore NIPUN Mission for Youth
- The Chhattisgarh government approved the Chief Minister Startup and NIPUN Mission with a ₹500 crore financial outlay over five years to transform youth into job creators.
- Entrepreneurship Development Centres will be established in all 33 districts, along with 100 Emerging Technology Labs to provide youth with hands-on exposure to new and emerging technologies.

Indian Navy Launches Advanced Ocean Research Vessel ‘ORV Sagar Manthan’
- India launched the advanced Ocean Research Vessel (ORV) ‘Sagar Manthan’ at Rishi Bankim Shipyard, Kolkata, on 9 September 2026. The vessel has been designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
- Indigenous Ocean Research: ORV Sagar Manthan represents a major step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in oceanographic research and maritime technology. It is the first advanced Ocean Research Vessel built by GRSE.
- Deep Ocean Mission: The vessel is being constructed under Vertical-4 (Deep Ocean Survey and Exploration) of the Government’s Deep Ocean Mission (DOM) at an estimated cost of around ₹840 crore.
India, Sri Lanka ink MoU on upgradation of L70 Guns for Lankan Air Force
- India and Sri Lanka exchanged Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) on upgradation of L70 Guns for the Sri Lankan Air Force, and cooperation between National Cadet Corps and National Defence Colleges of both the countries.
- The upgradation of these air defence guns will strengthen the air defence architecture of critical assets in Sri Lanka.
- The MoU on academic cooperation will facilitate knowledge sharing to further strengthen the academic bonds between them and formalise the NCC youth exchange programme between India and Sri Lanka.

Botanical Survey of India Discovers New Plant Species “Osbeckia ulotricha” in Kerala-Tamil Nadu Region
- The Botanical Survey of India discovered and described Osbeckia ulotricha, a new woolly-haired flowering plant species in the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve located across Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the Western Ghats.
- Family & Genus: Belongs to the Melastomataceae family and the genus Osbeckia.
- Elevation: Thrives at altitudes between approximately 1,200 and 1,500 meters.
- Flowering Season: Produces flowers and fruits from February to May.
- Distinct Features: Features a woolly or curly-haired appearance (indicated by the Greek-rooted name ulotricha), leaves clustered at the apex, a sub-globose/urn-shaped hypanthium, and an ovary crowned with true bristles.

Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong’s first chief executive, Passed Away at 89
- Tung Chee-hwa the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, died on September 8 at the age of 89.
