• Online travel company, MakeMyTrip has joined hands with the Ministry of Tourism to showcase 600-plus offbeat destinations.
• The online travel firm has launched a microsite, ‘Traveller’s Map of India’.
• The site provides an interactive platform for travellers to discover lesser-known tourism gems that lie within the country’s borders based on their preferences.
• According to MMT This microsite has been designed in line with the Government of India’s visionary ‘DekhoApnaDesh’ program.

Kupwara bags ‘Best Performer District Award’ under PMAY-G Convergence

• In a remarkable achievement, frontier district Kupwara has been conferred with the prestigious award for the “Best Performer District in UT of J&K under PMAY-G” by Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor J&K UT.
• Kupwara district has received the award in recognition of the construction of 4723 PMAY houses out of a target of 4902
• Kupwara district has received the award in recognition of construction of 4723 PMAY houses out of a target of 4902 houses for financial year 2022-23 and providing the other basic facilities to the beneficiaries under convergence.
• The rural housing programme not only provides a home to the poor but also generates employment for them up to 96 days work under MGNREGA besides LPG connection, water and electricity connections are provided to PMAY beneficiaries under convergence.
• PMAY-Gis successfully fulfilled the dream of several poor and vulnerable families having their own Pucca house in frontier Kupwara district.

PM Modi laid foundation of Sant Ravidas temple in Madhya Pradesh

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a temple of 14th-century mystic poet and social reformer Sant Ravidas in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district.
• Sant Ravidas was born at a time when the Mughal dynasty was ruling the country, and he had fought for educating the people at that time.
• Sant Ravidas was an Indian mystic poet-saint of the bhakti movement and founder of the Ravidassia religion during the 15th to 16th century.
• The temple of Sant Ravidas will be constructed in Sagar at a cost of Rs 100 crore to be provided by the state government.
• A Sangrahalay (museum) will also be constructed at the temple premises.
• Modi also launched some other development projects in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, including the re-development of the Kota (Rajasthan)-Beena (Madhya Pradesh) railway line.

MeitY Secretary AK Sharma launches the ‘Graphene-Aurora Program’

• The ‘Graphene-Aurora program’ was launched by the MeitY Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma in Kochi, Kerala.
• The program will be implemented by Digital University Kerala and has a total budget outlay of Rs 94.85 Crore.
• A section 8 company called ‘India Graphene Engineering and Innovation Centre (I-GEIC)’ will be set up to nurture the emerging Graphene technology ecosystem.

Parshottam Rupala launches ‘A-HELP’ Programme in Gujarat

• The Union Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala has unveiled the ‘A-HELP’ (Accredited Agent for Health and Extension of Livestock Production) programme in Gujarat.
• The ‘A-HELP’ programme aims to empower women by engaging them as trained agents who contribute significantly to disease control, artificial insemination under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), animal tagging, and livestock insurance.
• This endeavour serves as an exemplary integration of women’s power, fostering socio-economic progress in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
• It was launched under the Pashudhan Jagrati Abhiyaan.

Government to launch Vishwakarma scheme

• The government will launch the Vishwakarma scheme, with an allocation of ₹13,000 crores to ₹15,000 crores for skilled workers like barbers, goldsmiths, washer men etc.
• The scheme will be launched in September, on the Vishwakarma Jayanti. Vishwakarma Jayanti falls on 17 September 2023.
• The remarks during his address to the nation on the occasion of 77th Independence Day from the ramparts of Red Fort in New Delhi.
• PM Vishwakarma Scheme aims to improve the quality, scale and reach of products and services of artisans and craftspeople and to integrate them with the domestic and global value chain.
• PM Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana is initiated especially for people where the central focus remains on those skilled craftsmen from villages and towns who create a living by working with their own hands.
• The government will provide holistic institutional support to every artisan. The government will ensure easy loans, skilling, technical support, digital empowerment, brand promotion, marketing and raw material.
• This would result in the economic empowerment of such workers, especially those belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Communities, women, transgender and other weaker sections of the society.

Retail inflation rises to 15-month high of 7.44 percent in July

• India’s retail inflation surged to 44 percent in July on an annual basis as against 4.81 percent in June, showed data released by the Ministry of statistics.
• It is the highest reading since May 2022 when the inflation rate stood at 7.79 percent. The consumer food price index (CFPI) rose to 11.51 percent from 4.49 percent in June. Rural inflation stood at 7.63 percent while urban inflation stood at 7.20 percent.
• The consumer-price index (CPI) based inflation breached the upper limit of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) tolerance band of 2-6 percent after staying within for four consecutive months.
• The inflation rate for vegetables witnessed a sharp increase and rose to 37.34 percent against a contraction of 0.93 percent y-o-y. The inflation levels for food & beverage surged to 10.57 percent from 4.63 percent. For cereals, the inflation rate increased to 13.04 percent from 12.71 percent in June.
• In its August Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, the RBI raised its inflation forecast for the current fiscal to 5.4 percent from 5.1 per cent forecast in June policy.

R Doraiswamy appoints as MD of LIC

• Centre has appointed R Doraiswamy, Executive Director of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) as Managing Director of the insurance behemoth.
• Doraiswamy will replace Ipe Mini, who is currently an MD of LIC and is due to superannuate at the end of this month.
• Doraiswamy has been appointed from the date of assumption of charge of the office on or after 1 September 2023 and up to the date of his superannuation (31 August 2026) or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
• Currently, LIC has four Managing Directors — Mini Ipe, M Jagannath, Tablesh Pandey, and Sat Pal Bhanoo. The Centre had appointed Bhanoo as MD of LIC last month.

President Murmu approved 76 Gallantry awards for Armed Forces and CAPF personnel

• President Droupadi Murmu has approved 76 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the evening of Independence Day 2023.
• These include four Kirti Chakra (posthumous), 11 Shaurya Chakras (including five posthumous), two Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).
• The President has also approved 30 mention-in-despatches to the army, including to Army dog Madhu (posthumous), and one to Air Force personnel for their significant contributions in different military operations.
• The operations include Operation Rakshak, Operation Snow Leopard, Operation Casualty Evacuation, Operation Mount Chomo, Operation Pangsau Pass, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Orchid, Operation Kalisham Valley, Rescue Operation and Operation Evacuation.
• President Murmu also approved one President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) and five Tatrakshak Medals (TM) to the Indian Coast Guard personnel for their act of conspicuous gallantry, exceptional devotion to duty and distinguished/meritorious service on the occasion of Independence Day 2023.

• Jannik Sinner broke new ground in Toronto when he captured his maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open, defeating Alex de Minaur in the summit clash.
