Lion of Ladakh’ Sonam Wangchuk, Maha Vir Chakra Awardee, Passes Away

  • Sonam Wangchuk, a decorated Indian Army officer, passed away; he was honoured with the Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery.
  • He was popularly known as the “Lion of Ladakh” for his courageous role during the Kargil War.
  • As a Major, he led the Ladakh Scouts in the strategically important Chorbat La (Batalik sector) at an altitude of around 18,000 feet.
