Tamil Nadu to Establish Common Technology Facility (CTF) for Space Vehicles in Thoothukudi
- Tamil Nadu will establish a new Common Technology Facility (CTF) for space vehicles at the upcoming Space Industrial Park in Allikulam, Thoothukudi, under an agreement signed between the State Industries Department and Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre.
- Under the agreement, IN-SPACe will provide advanced testing equipment worth ₹100 crore, while the Tamil Nadu government will provide land and supporting infrastructure to create a world-class space technology ecosystem.
- The CTF will offer advanced testing facilities, including vibration & shock, thermal-vacuum, EMI/EMC, propulsion, pressure & flow testing, launch vehicle assembly, and component integration, supporting space startups and industries across India from the Space Industrial Park near Kulasekarapattinam.
Six States Reach Consensus on Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting in New Delhi where six states—Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan —agreed to sign an MoU for the implementation of the long-pending Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project aimed at rejuvenating the Yamuna River.
- Under the agreed funding pattern, the Central Government will provide 90% financial assistance for the water component of the project, while the remaining 10% will be shared by the six participating states.
- The Kishau Multi-Purpose Dam Project is expected to increase the flow of clean water in the Yamuna River, improve water availability, and support irrigation, drinking water supply, and hydropower generation, with the proposal to be placed before the Union Cabinet after the MoU is signed.
Ashok Leyland Signs MoU for Old Truck and Bus Replacement Scheme in Delhi-NCR
- The first Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the Centre’s old vehicle replacement scheme for the Delhi-NCR region was signed between the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility, making them the first Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to partner with the government under the initiative.
- Under the scheme, Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility will offer an 8% discount on the ex-showroom price of eligible trucks and buses, while the Central Government will provide 5% interest subvention along with fixed monthly fuel vouchers for five years.
- Participating state governments will provide up to 100% concession on motor vehicle tax for 10 years and waive registration fees, encouraging the replacement of old commercial vehicles with cleaner and more efficient models in the Delhi-NCR region.
Bharat Buildcon 2026 Inaugurated in New Delhi
- Union Minister Manohar Lal and Minister of State Jitin Prasada inaugurated Bharat Buildcon 2026 – One Nation, One Expo in New Delhi, a major exhibition dedicated to the building materials and construction industry.
- The event has participation from more than 90 countries and over 100 cities across India, showcasing products, technologies, and innovations across 24 segments, including ceramics, stone, hardware, cement, and allied sectors.
PM Modi to release 23rd instalment of PM-KISAN from West Bengal
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from Tarakeswar, Hooghly (West Bengal), transferring over ₹18,880 crore directly to the bank accounts of 44 crore farmers, including 2.18 crore women farmers.
- With this instalment, the total disbursement under PM-KISAN since its launch in February 2019 will exceed ₹4.46 lakh crore. In West Bengal, more than 45.35 lakh farmers will receive over ₹907 crore under the latest instalment.
- During the event, the Prime Minister will also launch key agricultural initiatives, including AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Mission on Natural Farming, PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS), and begin implementation of the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana in selected districts of West Bengal.

Uzbekistan Becomes First Central Asian Member of BRICS New Development Bank
- Uzbekistan has officially become the 10th full member and shareholder of the New Development Bank (NDB), becoming the first Central Asian country to join the BRICS Bank.
- The New Development Bank was established by the founding BRICS countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa—to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects in emerging economies.
- Headquartered in Shanghai, the NDB is currently headed by Dilma Rousseff and now has 10 full members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Algeria, and Uzbekistan.
- The NDB is also expanding further, with Uruguay, Colombia and Ethiopia currently listed as prospective members, pending completion of the accession process.

IRDAI Constitutes Working Group on AI to Promote Responsible Adoption in Insurance Sector
- The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has constituted a Working Group on Artificial Intelligence (WG-AI) to provide guidance on the responsible adoption, governance, and oversight of AI technologies in the insurance sector.
- The Working Group on AI (WG-AI) will be chaired by Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla, Director, IIIT Hyderabad, and will help formulate a robust AI governance framework for insurance companies.

HDFC Bank Extends Keki Mistry’s Interim Chairman Tenure by Three Months
- HDFC Bank has extended the tenure of Keki Mistry as its interim Part-time (PT) Chairman for an additional three months, until September 18, 2026, or until a regular Part-time Chairman is appointed, whichever is earlier.
- The decision was approved by the bank’s Board of Directors during its meeting, as the search continues for a permanent successor to the previous Part-time Chairman, Atanu Chakraborty.

India Achieves Record Defence Production of ₹1.78 Lakh Crore in FY26
- India’s defence production reached an all-time high of ₹1.78 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, registering a 15.6% increase over ₹1.54 lakh crore in FY25 and reflecting the success of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing.
- Defence production has grown by 110% since FY 2020-21 (₹84,643 crore) and has nearly quadrupled from ₹43,746 crore in FY 2013-14, highlighting the sustained expansion of India’s domestic defence industrial base.
- Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other public sector entities contributed nearly 76% of total defence production, while the private sector achieved a record 24% share, contributing around ₹42,000 crore.
- India’s defence exports also reached a historic high of ₹38,424 crore in FY26, reflecting growing international demand and global recognition for indigenously manufactured Indian defence equipment and platforms.
