Government Expands ALMM Framework to Solar Ingots & Wafers to Boost Domestic Manufacturing
- The government has expanded the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) framework by introducing ALMM List-III for solar ingots and wafers, effective from 1 June 2028.
- From this date, all solar projects (including net metering and open access) must use ALMM-listed wafers, making compliance mandatory.
- The move aims to boost domestic manufacturing, reduce import dependence, strengthen supply chains, and ensure high quality standards in the solar sector.
- The policy includes mandatory use in new bids, requires minimum domestic capacity (15 GW) with integrated production, and protects ongoing projects through grandfathering provisions.
Odisha’s Kusunpur Becomes State’s First ‘Smart Village’ Under CSIR Initiative
- Kusunpur village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district has been selected as the state’s first “Smart Village” under the CSIR initiative.
- The project, launched on March 16, aims at technology-driven rural transformation under the vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047”.
- CSIR has identified six villages nationwide as “live laboratories” to implement innovations through a “Lab to Land” approach in areas like agriculture, infrastructure, and rural development.

Tata Steel Approves Merger with NINL and $2 Billion Investment in Singapore Arm
- Tata Steel has approved the merger of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL), its wholly-owned subsidiary, with itself.
- Tata Steel had earlier acquired NINL in July 2022 for around ₹12,100 crore.
- The company has also approved an investment of up to $2 billion (₹18,488 crore) in its Singapore-based arm T Steel Holdings Pte Ltd (TSHP).

Banks Write Off ₹9.75 Lakh Crore Loans in 11 Years
- Banks have written off ₹75 lakh crore worth of loans over the last 11 financial years, as stated by MoS Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.
- Loan write-offs peaked at ₹1.59 lakh crore in FY20 and have gradually declined to ₹47,568 crore in FY25.
- Write-offs showed a rising trend from ₹31,723 crore (FY15) to over ₹1 lakh crore in FY19, indicating increasing NPAs during that period.
- Banks have written off Rs 31,723 crore in FY15, Rs 40,416 crore in FY16, Rs 68,308 crore in FY 17, and Rs 99,132 crore in FY18.
World Bank Approves $300 Million Loan for Clean Air Programme in Uttar Pradesh
- The World Bank has approved a loan of about USD 300 million for Uttar Pradesh to improve air quality through a clean air programme.
- The Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Program aims to reduce pollution across sectors like transport, agriculture, and industry, while promoting environmental sustainability and employment generation.
- The initiative focuses on measures such as the adoption of electric vehicles, industrial emission monitoring, and clean technologies to achieve sustainable growth and reduced pollution.

NMDC Limited Becomes First Indian Mining Company to Produce 50 MT Iron Ore in a Year
- National Mineral Development Corporation Limited (NMDC), India’s largest iron ore producer, became the first mining company in the country to produce 50 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore in a single financial year (2025–26).
- Established in 1958, NMDC’s production has grown from about 10 MT in 1978 to 50 MT, reflecting significant long-term expansion.
- Since 2015, production has increased sharply from around 30 MT to 50 MT, highlighting NMDC’s key role in strengthening India’s iron ore supply chain.
