Surajpur District Declares 75 Panchayats as “Child Marriage-Free” under Healthy Women, Empowered Families Campaign
- Surajpur district, Chhattisgarh, achieved a milestone by declaring 75 village panchayats as Child Marriage-Free Panchayats during the launch of the Healthy Women, Empowered Families campaign and National Nutrition Month.
- The recognition came after no child marriage cases were reported in these panchayats for the past two years, showcasing the success of consistent awareness and reform efforts.
- The achievement was driven by the Women and Child Development Department, which conducted awareness drives, engaged Anganwadi workers, panchayat representatives, and voluntary groups, fostering a societal shift toward education, health, and empowerment over child marriage.
HCL and OIL Sign MoU to Jointly Explore and Develop Critical & Strategic Minerals
- Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) and Oil India Limited (OIL) signed an MoU to collaborate on the exploration and development of critical and strategic minerals, including copper and associated minerals.
- HCL, a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Mines, focuses on mining, production, and processing of copper, while OIL, a Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has diversified into minerals to complement its core energy business.
- The collaboration is aligned with the National Critical Mineral Mission and is expected to strengthen India’s mineral security, energy security, and industrial growth.

R&I Japan Upgrades India’s Sovereign Credit Rating to BBB+ with Stable Outlook
- The Japanese credit rating agency Rating and Investment Information (R&I) upgraded India’s sovereign credit rating from BBB to BBB+ with a stable outlook, citing India’s demographic dividend, strong domestic demand, and sound government policies.
- This marks India’s third rating upgrade in 2025 by a sovereign credit rating agency, following S&P’s upgrade to BBB in August and Morningstar DBRS’ upgrade to BBB in May, reflecting growing investor confidence.
- R&I projects India’s GDP growth to remain in the mid-6% range from FY26 onwards, supported by population growth, rising incomes, public investment, and effective economic policies, while the government aims for a fiscal deficit of 4.4% of GDP in FY26.

PESB Recommends B. Sairam as Next Chairman of Coal India Ltd
- Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended B. Sairam, CMD of Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL), as the next Chairman and Managing Director of Coal India Ltd (CIL), succeeding P. M. Prasad, who retires on October 31.
- Sairam was chosen after interviews with 10 other applicants, including CMDs of MECL and CCL. The final appointment awaits formal procedures and approval by authorities.
- With 34+ years of coal sector experience, Sairam brings expertise in mine planning, operations, sustainable mining, logistics, and digitisation—key for tackling challenges like boosting domestic production and improving coal evacuation to reduce import reliance.

Mithun Manhas Set to Become New BCCI President
- Mithun Manhas, former Delhi captain, is set to become the new BCCI president, emerging as the sole nominee after the filing deadline.
- Raghuram Bhat, former India spinner and current Karnataka State Cricket Association head, is expected to be appointed as BCCI treasurer.
- Manhas has extensive experience in cricket administration, coaching IPL franchises, working with Bangladesh U-19, and serving on BCCI sub-committees; he played 157 first-class matches scoring 9,714 runs.
- The BCCI elections will be formalized during the annual general meeting in Mumbai on September 28, with current secretary Devajit Saikia, VP Rajeev Shukla, and other board members expected to continue or shift roles.

Dr. V. Mohan Receives Inaugural Diabetes Global Impact Prize 2025 in Vienna
- Dr V. Mohan, diabetologist and chairman of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, was awarded the inaugural Diabetes Global Impact Prize 2025 by the European Association for the Study of Diabetes at its 61st Annual Conference in Vienna, Austria.
- He is the first recipient of this prestigious award, recognizing his decades-long contributions to diabetes healthcare, research, education, training, charity, awareness, and policy in India.
- Mohan’s work includes the ICMR-INDIAB national study, pioneering research in monogenic diabetes, precision medicine, nutrition, and the Chunampet Rural Diabetes Prevention model, with over 1,800 publications, thousands of trained professionals, and 25,000+ free diabetes camps benefiting millions across India.

ICGS Adamya, First Adamya-Class Fast Patrol Vessel, Commissioned at Paradip Port
- Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Adamya’, the first of the eight Adamya-class Fast Patrol Vessels, was commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard at Paradip Port, Odisha.
- The 51-meter vessel, designed and built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited, showcases ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ with over 60% indigenous content, strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.
- ICGS Adamya features two 3000 KW diesel engines, a top speed of 28 knots, endurance of 1500 nm, and is the first ship equipped with indigenously developed Controllable Pitch Propellers and gearboxes for superior manoeuvrability and performance at sea.
