Everest Sets New Record: 274 Climbers Summit in a Day, Three Indians Included
- A total of 274 climbers successfully summited Mount Everest from the Nepal side, setting a new world record for the highest number of ascents in a single day.
- Among them, three Indian mountaineers — Tulasi Reddi Palpunoori, Sandeep Are, and Ajay Pal Singh Dhaliwal — were part of the record-setting Everest expedition.
Rekha Gupta Launches ‘Hauslon Ki Udaan 2026-27’ Talent Hunt Scheme in Delhi
- Delhi CM Rekha Gupta launched the “Talent Hunt Scheme – Hauslon Ki Udaan 2026-27” to identify and nurture young talent across Delhi.
- The scheme will provide a platform for participants to showcase skills in Classical Music, Folk Music, Classical Dance, Folk Dance, Contemporary Dance, Fine Arts, Sculpture, Pottery, and Theatre.
Jitendra Singh Dedicates UMMID Programme for Rare Genetic Disorders to the Nation
- Jitendra Singh dedicated the UMMID (Unique Methods of Management of Inherited Disorders) Programme for Rare Genetic Disorders to the nation in New Delhi, emphasising the future of genome-based and precision-driven healthcare in India.
- The Minister also launched the UMMID Compendium and UMMID Dashboard to improve nationwide access to genetic diagnostics, counselling, screening, outreach, and programme monitoring for inherited disorders.
- Under the UMMID programme, nearly three lakh individuals have benefited through screening and diagnostic services, while around 30 NIDAN Kendras have been established across India to provide advanced diagnostics and counselling services.
Bharat Tex 2026 to Showcase India’s Textile Strength with AI-Powered Innovation
- India’s flagship global textile event, Bharat Tex 2026, will be held in New Delhi from 14th to 17th July, showcasing India’s textile strength, sustainability initiatives, recycling capabilities, and advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- Textile Secretary Neelam Shami Rao launched the Bharat Tex Mobile App, featuring AI-enabled search to help buyers and exhibitors easily find products, suppliers, and stall locations.
- The Bharat Tex App will act as a unified digital platform for exhibitors, buyers, delegates, and partners, while the expo will also feature a dedicated AI Zone for textile manufacturers; over 72 countries have already registered for the event.
Eight Core Industries Growth Rises to 1.7% in April 2026 Led by Cement and Steel Output
- The combined Index of Eight Core Industries (ICI) recorded a growth of 1.7% in April 2026 on a year-on-year basis, improving from the revised growth rate of 1.2% in March, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
- Among the major sectors, cement production registered the highest growth at 9.4%, followed by steel production at 6.2% and electricity generation at 4.1% during April 2026.
- Several sectors witnessed a decline in output, including coal production (-8.7%), fertiliser production (-8.6%), natural gas (-4.3%), crude oil (-3.9%), and petroleum refinery products (-0.5%); the eight core industries together account for over 40% weight in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

- NISM and IICA signed an MoU in Mumbai to strengthen corporate governance, ESG frameworks, and India’s capital markets.
- The partnership will focus on capacity building, research, policy development, and training, including jointly designed certification courses, executive education modules, and specialised programmes for SEBI officials and financial sector professionals.
- The collaboration also aims to improve MSME access to capital markets, enhance sustainability disclosures, strengthen investor education, and promote evidence-based regulatory research for a more transparent financial ecosystem.

- India and Italy will celebrate 2027 as the “Year of Culture and Tourism” to enhance cultural exchanges, strengthen people-to-people ties, and deepen cultural diplomacy between the two ancient civilisations.
- Both countries also agreed to advance the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), aimed at boosting trade, investment, supply-chain resilience, and regional connectivity across Europe, the Middle East, and India.

- Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni two culturally significant stoles from India’s Northeast, showcasing the rich heritage of the region.
- The gifts included a Muga Silk Stole from Assam, known as “Golden Silk,” and a Shirui Lily Stole from Manipur, inspired by the rare Shirui Lily found only at Shirui Kashong Peak.
Bharat Forge Signs MoU with Andhra Pradesh to Set Up India’s First Private Marine Gas Turbine Facility in Visakhapatnam
- Bharat Forge Limited signed an MoU with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to set up India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) Repair, Overhaul and indigenous development complex at Visakhapatnam, within an 80-acre site in the Defence Manufacturing Corridor.
- The facility, located near key naval infrastructure including the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila, and Eastern Naval Command Headquarters, will provide advanced propulsion maintenance capabilities such as hot section restoration, component manufacturing, NDE lab services, and rapid 72-hour turnaround support.
- In its second phase, the project will develop India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine development and assembly hall with full testing facilities, enabling indigenous GT development, while also serving friendly foreign navies and generating around 750 direct and indirect jobs.

Greece’s Eurobank Opens Representative Office in Mumbai Ahead of India–Cyprus Diplomatic Milestone
- Eurobank of Greece has established a representative office in India, further strengthening financial and economic cooperation between the two countries.
- The new office in Mumbai was inaugurated by Nikos Christodoulides, while India and Cyprus are set to celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations in February 2027.

ICRA Cuts India’s FY2026-27 GDP Growth Forecast to 6.2% Amid Rising Crude Oil Prices
- Rating agency ICRA has projected India’s GDP growth at 6.2% for the Financial Year 2026–27, lower than its earlier estimate of 6.5%.
- The downward revision in GDP growth forecast is mainly attributed to elevated crude oil prices caused by the ongoing West Asia crisis.

RBI Cancels Licence of Yashwant Co-operative Bank Over Weak Capital and Earnings
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of The Yashwant Co-operative Bank due to inadequate capital and poor earning prospects.
- Following the cancellation, the bank is no longer permitted to carry out normal banking operations as per RBI regulations.
- The decision highlights RBI’s strict supervisory action to ensure financial stability and protect depositors’ interests in the banking system.

Nibe Limited Successfully Tests Indigenous Loitering Munition ‘Vayu Astra-1’ with High Precision Strike Capability
- Pune-based defence firm Nibe Limited successfully conducted no-cost, no-commitment trials of its indigenous loitering munition system “Vayu Astra-1” for the Indian Army at Pokhran (Rajasthan) and Joshimath (Uttarakhand) in April 2026.
- The anti-personnel variant of Vayu Astra-1, tested at the Pokhran Range on April 18–19, carried a 10-kg warhead and successfully hit its target at a 100 km range in a single attempt.
- The system demonstrated high precision with less than 1 metre Circular Error Probable (CEP), along with advanced features like abort attack and reattack capability during the trial.
