President Murmu inaugurated project worth Rs 43.08 cr at Srisailam Temple

  • President Droupadi Murmu has inaugurated the project “Development of Srisailam Temple” at Srisailam Temple Complex Andhra Pradesh.
  • The project has been sanctioned and executed under PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme under the Ministry of Tourism.
  • The project “Development of Srisailam Temple in the state of Andhra Pradesh” has been completed with a cost of Rs 43.08 crores. The project is 100 percent funded by the Ministry of Tourism.
  • Srisailam Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati.

Jio launched 5G services in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 6,500 crore

  • Reliance Jio has launched its 5G services in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs 6500 crore starting with the cities of Tirumala, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada & Guntur.
  • Andhra Pradesh Information and Technology Minister Gudivada Amarnath and Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy launched the Jio True 5G and Jio True 5G Powered wi-fi services.
  • Apart from their existing investment of Rs 26,000 crore, additionally, Jio has invested over Rs 6,500 crore for deploying 5G network in Andhra Pradesh.
  • By December 2023, Jio True 5G services will be made available in every town, taluka, mandalam, and village of Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Jio True 5G services are available to selected customers at no additional cost. The customers’ 4G tariff plan/package is upgraded to 5G. The only difference is that all upgraded 5G plans have unlimited data allowance.

NTPC signed with Italy-based firm for green methanol production

  • India’s major energy company ‘National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) has signed an MoU with Italy-based Maire Technimont Pvt Ltd to explore the possibility of Green Methanol production at NTPC projects.
  • This step has been taken to jointly develop commercial-scale Green Methanol Production facility at NTPC in India.
  • The scope of the Green Methanol Project involves capturing carbon from NTPC power plants and converting it into green fuel.
  • Green Methanol serves as the base material for chemical industry, storing of renewable electricity and as a transportation fuel. It is also considered a substitute for maritime fuel applications.

Home Ministry approved the name change of two places in Uttar Pradesh

  • The Union Home Ministry gave its consent to change the names of two places in Uttar Pradesh following recommendations from the state government.
  • The no-objection certificates (NOC) were issued to change the names of the municipal council ‘Mundera Bazaar’ to ‘Chauri-Chaura’ in Gorakhpur district and that of ‘Telia Afghan’ village to ‘Telia Shukla’ in Deoria district.

History of Mundera Bazar and Chauri-Chaura

  • Mundera Baazar is linked to the Chauri Chaura incident that occurred at Chauri Chaura in the Gorakhpur district of the United Province, (modern Uttar Pradesh) in British India.
  • On February 4, 1922, revolutionaries of the Non-Cooperation movement gathered after a meeting and proceeded in a procession to the local police station to picket at the nearby Mundera Bazaar.
  • The police confronted the volunteers and fired into the crowd killing some people and injuring many.
  • In retaliation, a large crowd of peasants set fire to a police station that killed 22 policemen. Due to this incident, Mahatma Gandhi had to call off the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-22).

Telia Afghan to Telia Shukla

  • The village in Deoria was named Telia Afghan in the revenue records, but the local residents have been using the name Telia Shukla for all purposes, including postal delivery as per the ET report. Thus, the name of the village will now be formally changed to Telia Shukla.

UP govt. inaugurated ‘E-Sushrut’ hospital management information system in UP medical colleges

  • The Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak and Minister of State for Medical Education Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh have inaugurated the ‘E-Sushrut’ Hospital Management Information System.
  • The first phase, the E-Sushrut system has been started in 22 medical colleges of the state. With this software patient registration, admission, discharge, ambulance, food, medicines, and details of doctors will be done online.
  • Hospital management information system has been implemented in Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Meerut, King George Medical University, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Science Saifai, GIMS Greater Noida, Lohia Institute, Sanjay Gandhi PGI, and Mirzapur Medical College.

Cabinet approved opening of Indian Mission in Lithuania and Maldives

  • The Union Cabinet has approved the opening of new Consulates in Maldives and Lithuania.
  • India has opened missions in 14 African countries out of the 18 announced in March 2018.
  • Three new Missions in Estonia, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic, approved by Cabinet in December 2020, were made operational in January-February, 2022.
  • The decision to open a new Indian Mission in Lithuania is a forward-looking step in pursuit of our national priority of growth and development or ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’.

ADB to provide $125 million loan to improve Urban Services in Tamil Nadu

  • The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $150 million loan to provide access to resilient and sustainable housing for the urban poor in the state of Tamil Nadu.
  • In 2018 ADB agreed to provide USD 500 million loan to build priority water supply, sewerage, and drainage infrastructure in strategic industrial corridors across 10 cities in Tamilnadu.
  • The loan amount was to be provided in three tranches. Under the third tranche $125 million will be provided and the amount will be used to build priority water supply, sewerage, and drainage infrastructure in Coimbatore, Madurai and Thoothukudi.

  • One of the leading public sector banks in the country Indian Bank has launched its flagship business mentoring program for MSME entrepreneurs – ‘MSME Prerana’ – in the state of Rajasthan.
  • “MSME Prerana”, is a first-of-its-kind initiative for MSME Sector in the country by any bank.
  • It aims at empowering MSME Entrepreneurs through skill development and capacity building training in their local languages, assisting them in acquiring necessary financial and managerial skills, capacity to handle crisis in business, understanding of dynamics of credit rating and risk management.
  • The MSME sector is a huge and potential sector and Indian Bank believes that ‘MSME Prerana’ will complement the efforts of the Government of Rajasthan by equipping them with the necessary skills to navigate and grow in the marketplace efficiently.

Hasmukh Adhia appointed as chief advisor to the Gujarat CM

  • Former Union finance secretary Hasmukh Adhia has been appointed as the chief advisor to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
  • The government has also appointed SS Rathod, the managing director of Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited and former CMD of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited, as the chief minister’s advisor.
  • Hasmukh Adia is a former Gujarat cadre IAS officer. Adhia retired from service in November 2018.
  • He was made the secretary in the Department of Financial Services, Union Ministry of Finance when Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014.

  • Santosh Kumar Yadav has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
  • Yadav is a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
  • He is currently additional secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education.
  • The government has also appointed Ganji Kamala V Rao as the Chief Executive Officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

South African cricketer Farhaan Behardien announces retirement

  • South African white-ball specialist and former T20I skipper Farhaan Behardien has announced his retirement from professional cricket.
  • The 39-year-old, who played 59 ODIs and 38 T20Is and captained the Proteas in a three-match T20 series against Sri Lankan in 2017.
  • He represented South Africa in four World Cups. He was part of the Proteas’ T20 World Cup campaigns in 2012, 2014, and 2016 as well as the ODI World Cup in 2015.
  • Behardien played 59 ODIs for the Proteas, in which he scored 1074 runs at an average of 30.69. He also played 38 T20ls and scored 518 runs.
  • He last represented South Africa in November 2018 in a T20I against Australia in Carrara.

  • Objective – To facilitate exchange of information, dissemination of scientific knowledge, and ensure exchange of best practices at the international level.
  • In its 75th session and 36th plenary meeting on December 7, 2020, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) passed a resolution which declared December 27 as the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness. The decision is part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
