  • Assam Legislative Assembly passed the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, 2026, making Assam the first North-Eastern state and the third state in India to adopt such legislation.

Indian Railways Approves First 10-Car Hydrogen Fuel Cell DEMU Train on Jind–Sonipat Route

  • The Ministry of Railways has approved the introduction of a 10-car Hydrogen Fuel Cell-based DEMU train on the Northern Railway Jind–Sonipat section, marking a major step towards green mobility in Indian Railways.
  • The approved trainset is a 1200 KW Hydrogen Fuel Cell-based DPRS DEMU with a maximum operational speed of 75 kmph, aimed at promoting eco-friendly rail transport.
  • This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader infrastructure push, which includes sanctioning 100 railway projects in FY 2025–26 with an investment of ₹1.53 lakh crore.
