Elephant Festival & Rejuvenation Camp begins at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh
- A five-day Elephant Festival and Rejuvenation Camp is being held at Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. The camp is being organised near Parasi Gate in the Dhamokhar buffer zone from September 24 to 28.
- The aim is to give working elephants some rest, check their health and provide them with nutritious and favourite food. Nine out of the 15 camp elephants in Bandhavgarh have been included in the camp.
India Launches First PRAMAAN Certificates Under Forest Scheme
- Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav recently handed over the first PRAMAAN certificates under the Indian Forest and Wood Certification Scheme (IFWCS) in New Delhi. The event was organised by the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, the operating agency of the scheme.
- PRAMAAN stands for Programme for Recognition and Accreditation of Sustainable Management Practices for Agroforestry and Natural Forestry Resources. It is a national certification framework for forests, wood and non-timber forest products (NTFPs). Its objective is to promote sustainable management and connect certified forest and agroforestry products with domestic and international markets.
- The IFWCS was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in December 2023. It seeks to promote sustainable forest management while strengthening the market value of certified forest and tree-based products. Its framework incorporates the Indian Forest Management Standards, linked to the National Working Plan Code (NWPC), 2023.
Amit Shah Launches PRAHAAR Conference, Online Extradition Portal
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the PRAHAAR counter-terrorism policy conference in New Delhi on September 28, 2026.
- Shah launched an online extradition portal to accelerate the return of fugitives from abroad.
- The PRAHAAR framework comprises pillars: Prevention, Response, Aggregating Internal Capacities, Human Rights, Attenuating Conditions, Aligning International Efforts, Recovery and Resilience.
- Shah urged state police to create fugitive-tracking teams and embed the PRAHAAR framework at police-station level.

USA Hosts G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee
- The G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting took place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from September 30 to October 1, 2026, hosted by the Office of the S. Trade Representative.
- Led by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, the ministerial convened top trade officials from the world’s largest advanced and emerging economies.
- The event served as a major stepping stone leading up to the main 2026 G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for December in Miami, Florida.

Bank of India Launches User-Level Programmable Digital Rupee with Auto-Issuance
- Bank of India has gone live with User-Level Programmable CBDC and Auto Issuance on its Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) platform, built by Montran India. Built in line with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) guidelines, the capability was formally announced in Mumbai.
- The feature lets a user schedule automatic issuance of digital rupee (e₹) to a beneficiary’s CBDC wallet, at a set amount and frequency, while defining the purpose the funds can be used for. Instead of authorizing the same transfer by hand every month, the sender configures it once. The system handles the recurrence, and the funds carry their intended use with them.
- A parent supporting a child studying in another city can replace the manual monthly transfer with a standing instruction: a fixed sum, credited to the child’s e₹ wallet on the same date each month, spendable on tuition, meals and the other education expenses the parent approved in advance.
Bankers’ Books Evidence Act, 2026 comes into effect, replaces colonial-era law
- Bankers’ Books Evidence Act, 2026 officially came into force on October 1, 2026, replacing the colonial-era Bankers’ Books Evidence Act, 1891.
Features of the New Act
- Digital Recognition: Validates electronic, digital, virtual, and cloud-based bank records as legally admissible evidence.
- Simplified Certification: Allows records to be authenticated via manual, digital, or electronic signatures
- Bank Officer Protections: Prevents bank staff from being routinely summoned to court proceedings where the bank is not a party, unless a judge records a “special cause” in writing.
- Expanded Scope: Empowers the central government to extend the framework to other financial-sector entities and post office savings banks.

HDFC Bank names Anup Bagchi as its new MD and CEO
- HDFC Bank has announced Anup Bagchi as its next managing director and chief executive officer. Bagchi will take charge on October 27, 2026, after the term of current MD and CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan ends on October 26. Jagdishan did not seek reappointment for another term.
- Bagchi, who is MD and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, and Kaizad Bharucha, HDFC Bank’s deputy MD.
Anup Kumar Saha Appointed Kotak Mahindra Bank MD and CEO
- Anup Saha will serve the bank for a period of three years, with effect from January 1, 2027.
- He joined the bank in January 2026 and currently serves as a whole-time director (executive director). He oversees the entire retail bank, government business, data analytics and marketing function. Before Kotak, Saha held series of senior leadership roles at Bajaj Finance.

1 October: World Vegetarian Day
- Every year, World Vegetarian Day is observed on October 1 to promote vegetarian eating and raise awareness of the potential health, ethical, and environmental benefits of being a vegetarian. The day also marks the beginning of Vegetarian Awareness Month.
- While the day encourages people to explore nutritious and flavourful meat-free meals instead of considering only non-vegetarian food options, it also helps people understand that being a vegetarian does not have any ill health effects, and a well-planned vegetarian diet can provide everything from protein, fibre, vitamins, and minerals to healthy fats and other essential nutrients.

Mahatma Gandhi’s 157th birth anniversary will be observed on Friday, October 2, 2026, as Gandhi Jayanti across India, commemorating the leader’s role in the country’s independence movement and his philosophy of truth and non-violence.
- The day is marked through prayer meetings, tributes and commemorative programmes, while the same date is observed by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence.

- Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti is observed annually on October 2 to commemorate the birth anniversary of India’s second Prime Minister. Born on October 2, 1904, in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh.
- Coined the immortal slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer) during the 1965 India-Pakistan war to honor the country’s soldiers and farmers.
