- Gujarat has launched a pioneering sports genomics programme for athletes. This initiative aims to understand genetic and physiological characteristics for better development. Scientific athlete profiling will support national and international competition readiness.
- The programme is significant for Gujarat’s 2030 Commonwealth Games preparations. It introduces a new scientific dimension to athlete training and potential.

India, Uzbekistan Elevate Ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Sign MoUs Across Various Sectors
- India and Uzbekistan announced to elevate their mutual Strategic Partnership to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership level. The Central Asian country also agreed to establish a framework for long-term supply of uranium to India and discuss the sites of the mining for rare earth minerals.
- India and Uzbekistan signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in various sectors, including Mining, Ayurveda, Tourism, Economic and financial dialogue, Comprehensive and strategic partnership, Higher education and the environment.
- Both Countries agreed to set a target of 5 billion dollars of bilateral trade by 2030, which is 5 times the current trade.

Peyman Kargar named TVS Motor Company’s next CEO
- TVS Motor Company has appointed Peyman Kargar as its next Director and CEO. He will take over from K N Radhakrishnan on January 27, 2027.
- Peyman Kargar joined TVS in 2025. He is currently the president of international business. Radhakrishnan will continue as CEO until January 27 and later serve as a non-executive director until the company’s AGM in July 2027.
- Kargar has more than three decades of experience in the automotive industry. He has worked in various domains, including product development, research and development, manufacturing, quality, sales and marketing, and international business operations.

PM Modi Conferred With Uzbekistan’s Highest Honour For Foreign Leaders
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on 30 August conferred with Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders, the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order, which he dedicated to the “enduring” bond between New Delhi and Tashkent.
- The prime minister was conferred with the honour by Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
- The Uzbek honour adds to a list of top state and civilian awards conferred on PM Modi by close to three dozen countries in recognition of his leadership and contribution to bilateral ties.
- PM Modi is in Uzbekistan on a two-day visit to bolster ties in a range of areas including trade, clean energy and connectivity.

India, Kuwait hold first Joint Defence Committee meeting
- The inaugural meeting of the India-Kuwait Joint Defence Committee (JDC) was held in New Delhi. During the meeting, both countries agreed to further strengthen the bilateral defence cooperation across a wide range of areas, including training, military exercises, military medicine, staff talks, defence industry, and Research and Development.
- The first meeting of the JDC marked an important step towards operationalising the objectives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation between India and Kuwait, signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait in December 2024.
India Signs Javelin Missile Deal with United States
- The Indian Army has signed a US Foreign Military Sales Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LoA) to procure nearly 100 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank guided missile systems worth $93 million.
About Deal
- Value: Approximately $93 million for the combined package.
- Contents: Around 100 Javelin missile rounds, 25 command launch units, simulation rounds, and M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery shells.

Velavan Senthilkumar wins PSA Budapest Squash Open title in Hungary
- India’s Velavan Senthilkumar won the PSA Budapest Squash Open title in Hungary after defeating home favourite Balazs Farkas 3-0 in the final.
- He had an impressive run to the title, beating World No. 18 and Asian Games gold medallist Eain Yow Ng 3-0 in the quarterfinals before overcoming fellow Indian Veer Chotrani 3-2 in a thrilling semifinal. Senthilkumar capped his remarkable week with a dominant performance in the final.

Norway’s King Harald dies aged 89
- Norway’s King Harald V has died at the age of 89 succeeded by son (Prince Haakon). He became king in 1991 following the death of his father, King Olav V.
- King Harald remained monarch during decades of economic growth largely driven by Norway’s oil and gas sector.
Uganda’s King Oyo Nyimba passes away at 34
- A traditional Ugandan ruler named as the world’s youngest monarch has died aged 34. Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV became king of Tooro in western Uganda at just three years old in 1995 after the death of his father.
- The Tooro kingdom did not disclose the cause of King Oyo’s death. Though Uganda is governed by an elected president and parliament, it has several traditional kingdoms which continue to have significant cultural influence despite not having political power.
