- Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Ranchi became the youngest swimmer to cross the Palk Strait, covering a 29-km distance.
- He completed the swim from Talaimannar to Dhanushkodi in 9 hours 50 minutes, setting a record for his age group.

India Ranks 157th in 2026 World Press Freedom Index, Falls Six Places
- India ranked 157th out of 180 countries in the 2026 World Press Freedom Index, released by Reporters Without Borders, and was placed in the “very serious” category.
- India’s rank fell from 151 in 2025 to 157 in 2026, though it improved compared to its 159th position in 2024.
- Norway topped the index for the 10th consecutive year, while Eritrea ranked last for the third straight year.
- The index evaluates countries based on factors like media independence, pluralism, legal framework, transparency, safety, and self-censorship.

- The Ministry of Finance has allowed 100% FDI in the insurance sector under the automatic route, with approval and oversight by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India.
- The reform follows the passage of the Sabka Bima Sabki Raksha Bill, 2025, which raised the FDI limit from 74% to 100%.
- While insurance intermediaries can have 100% FDI, foreign investment in Life Insurance Corporation of India remains capped at 20% under existing provisions.

GalaxEye Launches Mission Drishti, India’s First OptoSAR Satellite
- GalaxEye launched Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR satellite, making it India’s largest privately developed Earth observation satellite.
- The 190-kg satellite was launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, enabling advanced Earth observation capabilities.
- Mission Drishti uses OptoSAR technology, combining Electro-Optical (EO) and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors for all-weather, day-and-night imaging used in mapping, agriculture, flood monitoring, and surveillance.
