Narendra Tomar inaugurated workshop on Bamboo Sector Development

  • Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar has inaugurated the National Workshop on Bamboo Sector Development in New Delhi.
  • The event is being organized with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Invest India and Kerala State Bamboo Mission.
  • It aims to identify areas for improvement and explore expert suggestions to transform the bamboo industry.
  • The event is being supported by the Ministry of Agriculture as the continuation of efforts to sketch a bamboo economy for benefiting millions of people across the country including farmers, traditional artisans, craft-skilled youth, designers, entrepreneurs and investors.

First meeting of Central Asia JW Group on Afghanistan held in India

  • The first meeting of the India-Central Asia Joint Working Group on Afghanistan was held in New Delhi.
  • The meeting was attended by the Special Envoys and Senior Officials of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, & Uzbekistan.
  • During the meeting, discussions were held on the current situation in Afghanistan, including the political, security, and humanitarian situation.
  • While emphasizing the respect for sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs, all the participants have reiterated their support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan.
  • Participants also discussed regional threats of terrorism, extremism, radicalization and drug trafficking and also deliberated on the possibilities to coordinate efforts to counter these threats.
  • They emphasized that the territory of Afghanistan should not be used for sheltering, training, planning or financing any terrorist acts.

Yaoshang festival begins in Manipur

  • The Yaoshang festival has begun on the 7 March and will continue for five days in Manipur.
  • It is celebrated for five days in spring, starting on the full moon day of the month of Lamda (February-March).
  • The festival is celebrated by the Meetei who are predominantly Hindu and it is celebrated at the same time as Holi.
  • However, during the Yaoshang festival, apart from playing with colour, the festival also witnessed a number of cultural and religious activities for five days.

UP to host the 8th edition of Indian Fharma Fair (IFF)

  • The eighth edition of Vedshiv Business Media’s Indian Fharma Fair (IFF) 2023 will be organized in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from March 17 to 18 March 2023.

ECI host the 3rd International Conference on ‘Election Integrity’

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) has organized the 3rd International Conference on the theme ‘Inclusive Elections and Elections Integrity’.
  • ECI is leading the Cohort on Elections Integrity which was established as a follow up to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held virtually in December, 2021.
  • The first international conference of the Cohort was organized on 31 Oct – 01 Nov 2022 at New Delhi.
  • The 2nd Conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’ was hosted by ECI at New Delhi on 23-24 January 2023.

Odisha CM unveiled Dakota aircraft for public viewing in Bhubaneswar

  • Odisha’s CM, Naveen Patnaik has unveiled the iconic Dakota aircraft of legendary leader Biju Patnaik for public viewing at the Bhubaneswar Airport.
  • The iconic Dakota Aircraft belongs to erstwhile Kalinga Airlines and was founded by Ex-Chief Minister of Odisha (Late) Biju Patnaik.
  • It was unveiled on the 107th birth anniversary of the former CM of Odisha.
  • It was brought from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata to Bhubaneswar on January 18, 2023.
  • A 10-member team of Aerospace Research Development required has dismantled the aircraft and packed it in proper shape for public viewing.

  • Indian-American Arun Subramaniam has been confirmed as the first South Asian District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

Manik Saha sworn in as chief minister of Tripura for second time

  • Manik Saha has been sworn in as the new chief minister of Tripura for the second consecutive term.
  • Tripura governor Satyadeo Narain Arya administered the oath to him at Vivekananda Maidan in the capital city of Tripura, Agartala.
  • In 2022, he was made the chief minister after replacing Biplab Deb.

Shalija Dhami becomes first woman officer to command a fighter unit in IAF

  • Group Captain Dhami has become the first woman officer in the IAF to command a missile squadron in the Western sector facing Pakistan.
  • Dhami was commissioned as a helicopter pilot in the year 2003. She is currently posted in the Operations Branch of Forward Command Headquarters.
  • Dhami is the second deployment after Captain Shiva Chauhan of the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army.
  • Shiva Chauhan is currently the first woman officer to be operationally posted in Siachen.

Khelo India Dus ka Dum tournament to be organized to celebrate International Women’s Day 2023

  • In the run-up to the International Women’s Day 2023 celebrations, Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is set to organize the Khelo India Dus Ka Dum tournament from 10th to 31st of March.
  • This is the first time that such a sports initiative is taking place to celebrate the international event.
  • The Ministry has sanctioned a total budget of 50 Lakh rupees to conduct the tournament.
  • Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur will remain present at the opening ceremony of the event on March 10 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the national capital.
  • The tournament features 10 sports that will be held across 10 cities in the country. Nearly 15 thousand women athletes are set to participate in the tournament.
  • The main purpose of organising this tournament is to provide platform to the women athletes who were unable to participate in national or state level competitions and also ensure that competitive sports reaches untapped geographical areas.

Veteran actor-director Satish Kaushik passed away

  • Veteran actor-writer-director Satish Kaushik passed away at the age of 67.
  • He was an Indian actor, comedian, screenwriter, director and producer.  He acted in theatres before finding his break in Bollywood.
  • He directed Sridevi`s film, “Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raja” and later “Prem”, both disasters, but he got his big hit with “Hum Aapke Dil Me Rehte Hain” and also “Tere Sang”, among many others.
