Exp. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Atal Tunnel in Manali. It is “world’s longest highway” tunnel and is named Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. The 9.02 kilometres long engineering marvel connects Manali in Himachal Pradesh to Lahaul-Spiti throughout the year. The Atal tunnel has huge strategic significance as it will greatly assist in the movement of armed forces.

Atal Tunnel or the Rohtang tunnel has been built in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas. The tunnel is located at an altitude of 10,000 Feet from the Mean Sea Level (MSL). The tunnel is set to reduce road distance by 46 kilometres between Leh and Manali.

Exp. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday digitally launched ‘Gram Darshan’, which will allow accessibility to data of development projects of 6,197 Gram panchayats of the state.

“With the launch of Gram Darshan, the details of the completed, ongoing and required development projects of every village in Haryana will be digitally available.

Exp. Regional rural banks (RRBs) as a group reported net loss of Rs 2,206 crore in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2020, as against Rs 652-crore net loss in FY19, according to data published by Nabard.

During FY 2019-20, 26 RRBs earned profit of Rs 2,203 crore, while 19 incurred losses of Rs 4,409 crore, the data showed. The data on RRBs, recently published by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard).

Exp. The 2020 Nobel Prizes kicked off Monday with the naming of the winners, in the field of physiology or medicine.

The 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded jointly to Harvey J Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice “for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus.” The announcement was made on 5 October 2020 at the Nobel Forum at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm.

Exp. The Right Livelihood Award is an international award to “honour and support those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urgent challenges facing us today.” The prize was established in 1980 by German-Swedish philanthropist Jakob von Uexkull. An international jury, invited by the five regular Right Livelihood Award board members, decides the awards in such fields as environmental protection, human rights, sustainable development, health, education, and peace. Although it is promoted as an “Alternative Nobel Prize”,it is not a Nobel prize.

Exp. Bollywood actress Mishti Mukherjee, who has featured in many Hindi, Bengali and Telugu films, and music videos has passed away.

Besides featuring in major Bengali projects, Mishti made her debut in Bollywood with the film Life Ki Toh lag Gayi in 2012.

Exp. Veteran social activist, Prof Pushpa Bhave, also known as the Iron Lady of Mumbai, has passed away. She has been associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal and democratic movements since her student days.

She had taken part in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement and the Goa liberation movement.
