PM Modi to inaugurate COP13 through video conferencing

  • Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on 10th February said that Prime Minister NarendraModi will inaugurate COP13 through video conferencing.
  • Addressing press conference, he said that this is the 2nd COP that India is hosting which will focused around Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals.
  • The conference will take place from 15 to 22 February 2020 in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar.

Uttarakhand Govt launched First Helicopter Services under UDAN Scheme

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on 8th February launched helicopter services from the city to Gauchar and Chinyalisaur in the Garhwal hills under the Centre’s Udan scheme.
  • The fare from Sahastradhara to Gauchar will be Rs 4,120 per person while the fare from Sahastradhara to Chinyalisaur will be Rs 3,350.
  • Helicopters for Gauchar and Chinyalisaur from Sahastradhara will fly twice a day.

  • David Warner on 10th February won the Australian cricketer of the year award beating teammate Steve Smith by one vote in their first season following the ball-tampering ban that brought their rollicking careers to a one-year halt.
  • Warner won his third Allan Border Medal with 194 votes, with former Test captain Smith getting 193 votes and fast bowler Pat Cummins coming third with 185.
  • Ellyse Perry claimed her second Belinda Clark Award at the Australian Cricket Awards in Melbourne.

  • “The Panel wish to recognise his efforts in the development of Badminton in India, his efforts in supporting athletes across sports and his contribution to the Olympic Movement.”

Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passes away

  • Hindi novelist and Padma Shri awardee Giriraj Kishore passed away on 9th February in Kanpur. Giriraj Kishore was best known for his novel ”Pehla Girmitiya” that was based on Mahatma Gandhi”s stay in South Africa. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India and was the recipient of the Sahitya Akademi award. He was also conferred the Vyas Samman in 2000.
