♦CBSE Collaborates with IBM To Integrate AI Curriculum in 200 Schools across India
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the national level board of education in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Union Government of India, announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the high school curriculum (Grade XI & XII) for the current academic year (2020 – 2021).
- Developed in collaboration with IBM, the curriculum is part of CBSE’s Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action (SEWA) program and will be introduced in approximately 200 schools across 13 states in India (Delhi-NCR, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab).
♦Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat Inaugurates ‘Smriti Van’ in Dehradun on Harela Festival
- On the occasion of Harela festival in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on 16th July inaugurated ‘Smriti Van’ at Asthal village of Dehradun district in the memory of famous folk singer of the state late Jeet Singh Negi.
- Harela festival, which marks the onset of monsoon in Uttarakhand, is celebrated across hills three times every year. Harela means the day of green.

♦One Nation One Ration Card scheme now enabled in 20 States/UTs
- The One Nation One Ration Card facility was started as inter-State portability of ration cards in 4 States August 2019. Since then, a total of 20 States/UT have been integrated together into a seamless national portability cluster. June 2020. Thus, this facility is currently enabled for NFSA card holders in 20 States/UTs.
- These States/UTs are Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Sikkim, Mizoram, Telangana, Kerala, Punjab, Tripura, Bihar, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
- All other States/UTs are targeted to be integrated before March 2021.
♦Jal Jeevan Mission: Arunachal plans 100% tap connections by 2023
- Arunachal Pradesh Government has decided to provide 100% tap water connections to all the households in the State by 2023 under Jal Jeevan Mission, the flagship programme of Government, which aims to provide safe drinking water to all.

♦India and US sign MoU to develop strategic petroleum reserve
- India and the US have signed an MoU to develop a strategic petroleum reserve and the two countries are in advanced stage of discussion to store crude oil in America to increase India’s stockpile.
- Pradhan co-chaired with his American counterpart Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette a virtual US-India Strategic Energy Partnership Ministerial.
♦Govt has approved Zonal Master Plan of Bhagirathi Eco-Sensitive Zone
- Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar informed that the Zonal Master Plan of Bhagirathi Eco-Sensitive Zone has been approved by the government. This will pave way for faster execution of the Chaardhaam Project and give a boost to conservation of the ecology and developmental activities.
- In a review meeting of the Chaardhaam Road Project through video conferencing, the Minister said, the Bhagirathi Eco-Sensitive Zone notification was issued by the Environment Ministry in 2012. The Minister assured to extend all required cooperation for early completion of projects.

♦India Ranks 3rd In Global Manufacturing Risk Index, China Top: Cushman & Wakefield Report
- India ranks third in the list of most-suitable locations for global manufacturing among 48 countries in terms of cost competitiveness and operating conditions, according to property consultant Cushman & Wakefield.
- China and the U.S. retain the top two positions, while India has moved one place higher to rank third, the consultant said in its Global Manufacturing Risk Index report.
♦Gabon appoints Ossouka Raponda as its first woman prime minister
- The president of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba, appointed the country’s first woman prime minister, Rose Christiane Ossouka Raponda on 16th July.
- Oussouka Raponda was promoted from her role as defense minister and takes over from Julien Nkoghe Bekale, who held the role from January 2019. Bekale stepped down from his role earlier in the day.

♦RBI approves reappointment of Shyam Srinivasan as Federal Bank MD, CEO
- The Reserve Bank of India has approved the reappointment of Shyam Srinivasan as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Federal Bank with effect from September 23 till September 22, 2021. The bank received the approval from the apex bank on July 16.

♦Kate Winslet to Receive 2020 TIFF Tribute Actor Award
- Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet will receive the 2020 TIFF Tribute Actor Award at the Toronto Film Festival.
- Winslet will be feted during a virtual ceremony. “Kate’s brilliant and compelling onscreen presence continues to captivate, entertain and inspire audiences and actors alike,” Joana Vicente, executive director and co-head of the Toronto festival, said in a statement.

♦Arjuna awardee and ace para-badminton player Ramesh Tikaram passed away of COVID-19
- Arjuna awardee and ace para-badminton player Ramesh Tikaram died of coronavirus in a hospital here on 17th July, Para-Badminton India president N C Sudhir said.
♦Filmmaker Rajat Mukherjee passes away
- Bollywood director Rajat Mukherjee passed away on 19th July in Jaipur due to kidney-related issues. The filmmaker, known for directing films like Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya…, Love in Nepal, Road among others, was suffering from an illness for a long time, revealed actor Manoj Bajpayee. He was in his late 50s.
♦C.S. Seshadri, a leader of Indian mathematics, passes away in Chennai
- C.S. Seshadri, one of the leaders of Indian mathematics in the post-Independence era, passed away late on July 17 in Chennai. He was 88.
- A leader in the field of algebraic geometry, he made breakthroughs that lie at the base of many branches of this profound discipline.

- South Africa’s first black president, Nobel Prize winner and anti-Apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela’s birth anniversary, on 18 July, is observed as Nelson Mandela International Day across the world.
- Nelson Mandela (1918-2013) had dedicated his life fighting for human rights and he believed that everyone has the potential to make a difference in their communities for the world to be a better place. Mandela Day is an occasion for all to take action and inspire change.
