♦Narendra Singh Tomar launches Honey FPO Programme in 5 states

  • The Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar virtually inaugurated Honey Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) Programme in five states, for producing honey.
  • The Honey FPO Programme aims to address the issues faced by the beekeeping industry and also promote honey production in the country. This will also help in achieving the goal of increasing farmer’s income.
  • These 5 FPOs will be set up by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED). They will be set up at East Champaran (Bihar), Morena (Madhya Pradesh), Bharatpur (Rajasthan), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) and Sunderbans (West Bengal).

♦Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival to begin on December 1

Nagaland’s Hornbill Festival to begin on December 1

  • Dubbed as the ‘Festival of Festivals’, the Hornbill Festival, which has put the state on the global tourist map, is a 10-day annual cultural and tourism extravaganza that elaborately showcases the rich and diverse Naga ethnicity through folk dances, traditional music, local cuisine, handicrafts, art, craft workshops highlighting indigenous textiles and designs, among various other Naga experiences.
  • For the first time, amid the global coronavirus pandemic, Nagaland will be taking its 21st edition of the Hornbill Festival to a virtual platform from December 1 to 5, on three national and regional audio visual news channels.

♦Assam Govt. launched Orundoi Scheme

Assam Govt. launched Orundoi Scheme

  • The scheme is to be launched by the Assam government in 29 districts across the state. Through this scheme, the government seeks to empower women by transferring a minimum amount of Rs.830 each month directly to the bank accounts of the nominated female head of the household.
  • The scheme was announced during the state budget 2020-21. It is to be implemented at an annual budget of 2400 crores of Rupees.
  • it will support the family to buy by 4 kg of pulses worth 200 rupees, medicines worth 400 rupees per month, sugar for 80 Rupees and fruits and vegetables for 150 Rupees.

♦Andhra Chief Minister Launched ‘Jagananna Thodu’ Scheme

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on 28th Nov inaugurated the ‘Jagananna Thodu’ scheme aimed at benefitting several vegetable traders in the state.
  • Benefit: Scheme would benefit lakhs and several more schemes would be started for the interests of the poor. “Vegetables, small tiffin shops, flowers, motorcycle vendors, teeth, groceries, loom work, cloth and handlooms, lacework, steel shops, pottery, kitchen and plastic goods, electronic goods, and several other items will be made available for beneficiaries of the scheme.

♦PM Modi participates in Dev Deepawali Mahotsav in Varanasi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 30, 2020 participated in the ‘Dev Deepawali Mahotsav‘ in Varanasi and congratulated the people of Kashi for getting back the stolen Mata Annapurna’s idol.
  • He said that these ancient idols of our gods and goddesses are a symbol of our faith as well as our priceless heritage.

♦Arab Gulf’s first coal-based power plant being developed in Dubai

  • The first coal-based power plant of Arab Gulf country is being developed in Saih Shuaib, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
  • The 2,400MW Hassyan clean coal power station will be built at an estimated cost of $ 3.4 billion. The project will comprise four units of 600MW each, which are expected to start operations in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 respectively.

♦US Air Quality Index

  • According to the released The United States Environmental Protection Agency regards air quality satisfactory if the AQI is under 50, Lahore has once again topped the list of world’s most polluted cities in the world. The report says that the particulate matter rating of Lahore was 423.
  • Lahore was followed by New Delhi with a particulate matter rating of 229. Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal ranked third with a particulate matter rating of 178.

UBS Projects India’s GDP at -10.5% for FY21

  • The UBS has projected India’s real GDP to contract 10.5% in FY21, in its Global Economics & Markets Outlook 2021-2022 report.
  • For the fiscal 2021-22 (FY22) UBS expect India’s real GDP growth to rebound to +10%  in FY22. UBS also estimates India’s GDP to stabilise at 6.2 per cent YoY in FY23.

♦YES Bank launches ‘SMS Pay’ on POS Terminals

  • Private lender YES Bank has launched an ‘SMS Pay’ functionality on POS terminals, which would allow merchants to accept contactless and remote payments from their customers.
  • YES Bank has collaborated with French payment services company Worldline to launch the new facility.

♦PFC, REC to provide Rs 8,520 cr loan to SJVN’s power project in Bihar

PFC, REC to provide Rs 8,520 cr loan to SJVN's power project in Bihar

  • State-owned PFC and REC have signed an initial pact with SJVN to provide Rs 8,520 crore worth loan for a thermal power plant in Buxar, Bihar.
  • STPL is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJVN and executing the project. The Buxar thermal power project is expected to be commissioned in 2023-24 and generate approximately 9,828 Million Units of energy to meet the future power requirement of Bihar and other states.

♦November GST collection stands at ₹1.04 lakh crore

  • Revenue from Goods and Services Tax (GST) stood at over ₹1.04 lakh crore in November as against ₹1.05 lakh crore collected in the Nov month.
  • This is the second straight month in the current fiscal when GST revenue has topped ₹1 lakh crore. The collection in November 2020 is 1.4 per cent higher than in November 2019 when the GST mop-up was ₹1,03,491 crore.

♦ S&P India’s GDP forecast at 9% contraction for FY21

  • S&P growth forecast of negative 9 per cent in fiscal 2020-2021 and 10 per cent in fiscal 2021-2022. While there are now upside risks to growth due to a faster recovery in population mobility and household spending, the pandemic is not fully under control.
  • S&P, in its report on Asia Pacific, projected the Indian economy to grow at 10 per cent in the next fiscal (FY21).


♦AR Rahman announced as India ambassador to BAFTA’s Breakthrough initiative

  • Academy Award-winning music composer AR Rahman on 30nov was announced as the ambassador for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ (BAFTA) ”Breakthrough Initiative”.
  • The initiative, supported by Netflix, aims to identify, celebrate, and support up to five talents working in film, games, or TV in India.


♦Indo-Japan cooperation wins OECD MAP 2019 award for highest agreement ratio in transfer pricing cases

  • Indo-Japan cooperation has won the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mutual Agreement Procedure 2019 Award for highest agreement ratio for a pair of jurisdictions for transfer pricing cases.
  • The Award to India-Japan Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP) cooperation demonstrates India’s commitment to provide tax certainty and efficacious dispute resolution mechanism for the Japanese companies doing business in India.


♦Lewis Hamilton won Bahrain GP

  • Lewis Hamilton powered to his record-increasing 95th victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix on 29th Nov in a race overshadowed by a horrific crash for Romain Grosjean, from which the Frenchman escaped relatively unscathed.
  • followed by Max Verstappen and his Red Bull teammate Alex Albon.

♦Indian Navy successfully test-fires naval version of BrahMos missile

  • A naval version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired by the Indian Navy in the Bay of Bengal on 1 Dec as part of a series of trials being carried out by the three services.
  • A similar test firing of the missile was conducted by the Indian Navy in the Arabian sea six weeks back. BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, produces the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms.
