Employees' Welfare Scheme Launched In Arun Jaitley's Name In Rajya Sabha

  • The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has launched an employees’ welfare scheme in the name of late Arun Jaitley (“Shri Arun Jaitley Financial Assistance for Group C Employees” Scheme), which will be funded by the pension his family receives as he has been a member of the upper house.
  • The scheme seeks to benefit group “C” employees of the secretariat by awarding their children three scholarships for higher technical and professional education. the employees will be extended financial support in case of death and medical emergency.

Rajasthan Launched ‘One-stop’ scheme to fast-track investments

  • A “one-stop shop” scheme approved in Rajasthan is set to fast-track investments and help revive industries in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic by giving as many as 98 types of clearances under one roof to the potential investors through the Bureau of Investment Promotion (BIP).
  • The new scheme will expedite all the processes for investment proposals above ₹10 crore.

Delhi Govt. Launched ‘Mukhya Mantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana’

  • The Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government on 21st July cleared a proposal to allow doorstep delivery of ration in the national capital. ‘Mukhya Mantri Ghar Ghar Ration Yojana’, will be launched in six to seven months and will be linked to Centre’s ‘one nation, one ration card’ scheme.
  • Benefit: On its implementation, ration will be delivered to the house of beneficiaries. They will not have to come to the ration shops.”

India-Maldives sign agreement to “Emergency Medical Services” in Male


  • Maldivian Health Ministry and the Indian government have signed a MVR 8 million agreement to build an Emergency Medical Services Center in B. Dharavandhoo.
  • The project is being funded under a MVR 106 million grant assistance released by India for small and medium projects in Maldives.

US lawmakers pass legislation urging China to de-escalate situation with India along LAC


  • The US House of Representatives has passed a bipartisan legislation, urging China to peacefully de-escalate the situation with India along the Line of Actual Control.
  • The legislation on 21st July came a day after the House unanimously passed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), slamming China’s aggression against India in the Galwan Valley and its growing territorial assertiveness in and around disputed areas like the South China Sea.
  • The resolution, sponsored by Indian-American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi along with eight others, was passed by the House along with National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for the fiscal year 2021 and condemned Chinese aggression towards India along the Line of Actual Control.

  • Singaporean brokerage DBS on 22nd July forecast deeper distress for the country which will lead to a (-) 6 per cent growth contraction in FY21.
  • In its earlier forecast, the brokerage had penciled in a minus 4.8 per cent growth for the current fiscal.

CBIC and CBDT sign MoU to facilitate smoother bilateral exchange of data

  • A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on 21st July  data exchange between the two organisations.
  • This MoU supersedes the MoU signed between CBDT and the erstwhile Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) in the year 2015. Significant developments have taken place since the signing of earlier MoU in 2015 including introduction of GST, incorporation of GSTN and change in the nomenclature of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) to Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
  • Changed circumstances, including advancements in technology, are duly incorporated in the MoU signed.


Karur Vysya Bank appoints Ramesh Babu Boddu as MD & CEO


  • Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) on 21st July annouced its Board of Directors has co-opted Ramesh Babu Boddu as an Additional Director and appointed him Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer for three years.
  • He retired as Deputy Managing Director in State Bank of India in April 2020.

Climate Activist Greta Thunberg awarded 1 million Euros Gulbenkian Prize

  • The Climate Activist Greta Thunberg was awarded the Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity. She was awarded with prize money of 1 million Euros.
  • Climate activist Greta Thunberg on 20th July announced that she would donate her 1 million euros ($1.15 million) prize to groups working to protect the environment and halt climate change.
  • Thunberg was selected from 136 nominees in 46 countries for the award, which was launched by the a Portuguese philanthropic organisation.

  • The flight trials of India’s anti-tank guided missile ‘Dhruvastra’ were successfully conducted at the Interim Test Range (ITR) in Odisha.
  • According to reports, the trials of the helicopter-launched Nag Missile (HELINA), which has now been named as ‘Dhruvastra’ anti-tank guided missile, were conducted in direct and top attack mode on July 15 and 16.
