♦India to host Global Film Summit in 2021
- Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar has announced that India will host a global media and film summit next year and will also set up a special pavilion at Cannes in 2022 on the occasion of the Cannes Film Festival’s 75 years celebrations.
- The minister invited the attendees to participate in the 51st IFFI in Goa in January 2021.
- CII is organising the CII Big Picture Summit from December 16-18, 2020 over digital platform with a range of sessions that will include participation from content creators, broadcasters, buyers, studios, production companies, publishers, distributors, and developers across the gamut of the Media & Entertainment landscape.
♦Karnataka unveils “FRUITS” portal for farmers
- Karnataka government has unveiled the Farmer Registration and Unified beneficiary Information System (FRUITS), an e-governance portal, to create a repository of farmland information and farm loan details on a single platform. All farmers will be registered and given an identification number on the portal.
- The FRUITS Portal is integrated into the BHOOMI Package of the Karnataka State for fetching and validating the land details. One other important facility of this Portal is online creation of charge by which visit of farmers to Sub-Registrar Office is avoided. Canara Bank has agreed to run FRUITS on a pilot basis.

♦FIFA cancels men’s 2021 U-20, U-17 World Cups
- The Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to cancel the 2021 editions of the men’s U-20 World Cup and U-17 World Cup and gave the hosting rights to Indonesia and Peru respectively for the 2023 editions.
- “The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and to have a restrictive effect on international travel.
- The two host countries, Australia and New Zealand will automatically qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, and their slots have been taken directly from the quotas allocated to their confederations, namely the AFC and the OFC respectively.

- It is celebrated across the globe on 25 December to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, the son of God.
- The first known date of Christmas being rejoiced on December 25th was in 336 AD, through the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine who was the first Christian Roman Emperor. After some years, Pope Julius I formally announced that the birth of Jesus would rejoiced on the 25th December.
♦25 December – Good Governance Day
- The National Good Governance day was first established in the year 2014. Of the many important dates in December, this one is to pay a tribute to Atal bihari Vajpayee who worked for the prosperity of the country.
- Atal bihari Vajpayee served India as the 10th Prime Minister. He was also known as a great leader, poet, humanist, and statesman.

♦Malayalam Poet, Conservationist Sugathakumari Passes Away
- Eminent Malayalam poet, conservationist and women’s rights activist Sugathakumari, who had tested positive for COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment, died at the government medical college hospital here on 24th Dec. She was 86.
- One of the most celebrated Malayalam poets of the contemporary era, Sugathakumari was known for her unique poems filled with compassionate empathy, human sensitivity and philosophical quest.
♦Renowned Urdu writer Shamsur Rahman Faruqi passes away
- Indian poet and theorist Shamsur Rahman Faruqi passed away. Faruqi was known for his application of Western criticism to Urdu literature, but not before tempering it to fit native sensibilities.
- The novelist’s contribution to Urdu literature is immense and in some ways even immeasurable.
