Madhya Pradesh rolls out 'Launch Pad Scheme' to make youth self-reliant

  • In Madhya Pradesh, ‘Launch Pad Scheme’ is being started for boys and girls coming out of child care institutions and having completed 18 years of age. The objective of this scheme of the Women and Child Development Department is to provide such a platform to these youth, through which they will be able to become self-reliant by continuing their education and training.
  • Under the launch pad scheme, 52 districts of the state have been divided into 5 clusters. Five divisional headquarters are being started in Indore, Sagar, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Bhopal.

♦Ministry of Tribal Affairs setup TRIFOOD Parks in MP

  • The TRIFED (Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India) operating under Ministry of Tribal Affairs signed a memorandum of understanding with Akhil Bhartiya vanvasi Kalyan Ashram to setup TRIFOOD parks in Madhya Pradesh.
  • This is to be achieved through mobilization of self help groups, TRIFOOD parks, Van Dhan Vikas Kendra. They will together provide machinery and equipment, identify self help groups, organised training and building infrastructure. They will also focus on other activities such as Horticulture, fisheries, floriculture, animal husbandry and craft. They will mainly work to to improve the livelihood of tribals.

♦Uttar Pradesh Government launched Kisan Kalyan mission

Uttar Pradesh Government launched Kisan Kalyan mission

  • The Kisan Kalyan mission aims to double the farmer income covering all the Assembly constituencies of the state of Uttar Pradesh. This is to be achieved through campaigns that create awareness among farmers on how to reduce agricultural caused by using fertilizers in a balanced manner.
  • The mission will also encourage farmers to time their cultivation of crops according to the demand of the market. The mission aims to create agricultural diversification.
  • The mission will act as a unified platform for several state government departments such as Mandi Parishad, animal husbandry, Horticulture, sugarcane food and supply, fisheries and Panchayati Raj.

♦PM Modi inaugurates Kochi-Mangaluru natural gas pipeline

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the 450-km Kochi-Mangaluru natural gas pipeline built at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore via video conferencing. The event marks an important milestone towards the creation of One Nation One Gas Grid.
  • Natural gas pipeline network will be doubled in 5-6 years and CNG stations will be raised to 10,000 from current 1,500.
  • It has been built by GAIL (India) Limited. It will carry natural gas from the LNG Regasification Terminal at Kochi. The pipeline will supply environment-friendly PNG.

GoI & NDB sign two loan agreements for USD 646 million for upgrading Road Network in Andhra Pradesh

  • The Government of India, the Government of Andhra Pradesh, and the New Development Bank (NDB) signed loan agreements of up to USD 323 million each for two projects.
  • The first project – Andhra Pradesh Roads and Bridges Reconstruction Project – comprises widening 1,600 km of State Highways to double lane and reconstructing dilapidated bridges on the State Highway network.
  • The second project – Andhra Pradesh Mandal Connectivity and Rural Connectivity Improvement Project – comprises widening 1,400 km of district roads to double lane and reconstructing dilapidated bridges on the district road network. The Government of Andhra Pradesh will implement the Projects through the Roads and Buildings Department.

♦RBI fines Bajaj Finance Rs 2.5 crore for recovery agent harassment

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed Rs 2.50 crore monetary penalty on Bajaj Finance for violating RBI’s directions on fair practices code (FPC) and outsourcing of financial services by a non-banking financial company.
  • Bajaj Finance violated a “specific direction to the company to ensure full compliance with FPC in letter and spirit,” and that it failed to ensure “that its recovery agents did not resort to harassment or intimidation of customers as part of its debt collection efforts and thereby failing to adhere to the aforesaid directions issued by RBI.

Tata Power, SIDBI join hands for rooftop solar financing for MSMEs

  • Tata Power on 5th Jan announced its partnership with SIDBI to provide a finance scheme to the MSME players in the rooftop solar segment.
  • The benefits of the scheme can be availed by both off-grid and on-grid solar connections. There was a need to innovate and pay attention to these (MSMEs) classes of customers to activate next leg of growth in rooftop solar market. Most MSMEs fail to attract developers due to smaller size or inadequate financial worthiness. The scheme will help the need of financing in the sector.”

Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal to take charge as Deputy Chief of Army Staff

  • Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal has been named the new Deputy Chief of Army Staff (DCOAS). Lt Gen Dayal is the Corps Commander of the Tejpur based 4 Corps. He will take the place of Lt Gen SS Hasabnis who superannuated on December 31 as soon as his replacement arrives.
  • Lt Gen Taranjit Singh, the first Army officer to join as the Additional Secretary in the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) under the Ministry of Defence.

  • The first newspaper in the Marathi language named ‘Darpan’, was published on January 6, 1832, the date which also marks the birth anniversary of Balshastri Jambhekar also known as ‘The Father of Marathi Journalism’.
