14 April: Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti
India observes Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Jayanti on 14th April every year to remember one of the most visionary leaders of India and his ideas of equality and freedom that has shaped India’s policy.
Millions of people across the nation motivates today also by Dr Ambedkar’s high values and principles. Due to his immense contribution to the formation of the Indian constitution he called as the ‘Father of the Indian Constitution’.

Dr BR Ambedkar:
Born: 14th April, 1891
On 14th April 1891, Dr. Ambedkar was born in the town and military cantonment of Mhow. He was the fourteenth and last child of his parents.
Ramji Maloji Sakpal the father of Dr. BR Ambedkar was a follower of Sant Kabir and served as a Subedar in British Amry.
Education:
- With a scholarship from highness Sayajirao Gaikwad of Baroda, he completed his graduation from Elphinston College, Bombay.
- After completing his graduation he served to Baroda Sansthan before went to the USA for higher studies.
- He did his first MA in economics, with other subjects of Sociology, History, Philosophy and Anthropology.
- He also did second MA in on the thesis of ‘National Dividend of India- A historic and Analytical Study’.
- Ambedkar achieved Ph.D. degree from Columbia University.
- He started working on a doctoral thesis after enrolling at the London School of Economic
Political career:
Ambedkar had served as the principal of the Government law college in 1935.
He became a member of upper house of parliament called ‘Rajya Sabha’.
He had served as the 1st Law minister of India after its independence.

- The first Indian to pursue a doctorate in economics out of India is Dr. BR Ambedkar.
- His argument about the industrialisation and agricultural growth which he believed that can enhance the Indian economy. He considered the investment in agriculture as the primary industry of India.
- On October 13, 1935 he announced to convert his religion in the coming time.
- He adopted Buddhism over Hinduism.
- Mahaparinirvan Diwas is observed on his death anniversary every year across India.
- He always known for Dalit rights movement, heading committee drafting constitution of India and Dalit Buddhist movement.
- He honoured with India’s highest civilian award ‘Bharat Ratna’ posthumously in 1990.
