The first case of Monkey Pox has been detected in India. A 35-year-old man from Kollam in Kerala has been infected with this virus who returned from the UAE.
As per the Kerala government, the patient’s condition is now stable and around 15 people who had contacted have been identified and took to the preventive measures.
The Centre has rushed along a high-level multidisciplinary team to the southern state Kerala to confirm the stability of situation with the state health authorities and guide to public health measures.
Central team of experts:
According to a government notification, the central team which reached to Kerala consist experts which are from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi, and high level dignitaries from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The patient is a native of Kollam who arrived at Trivandrum airport on July 12 had contacted with the monkey pox infected patient in UAE. The parents of him have been isolated. Even around 11 passengers of the flight in which he came to Kerala are also come in under observation.
The state health department has already declared immediate actions and guidelines on monkeypox. The patient is stable and normal in health conditions.
Centre orders to state:
The Centre has directed to states to ensure screening and testing of all suspected cases at entry points and in the community as part of India’s preparedness against the ‘Zoonotic disease’. It has also directed states and union territories to make a list of hospitals and ensure enough human resources and logistic support to tackle any suspected or confirmed monkeypox case.
Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan informed that the World Health Organisation has registered that a total of 3,413 laboratory-confirmed monkeypox cases and one death from 50 countries and territories from January 1 to June 22.
