Draupadi Murmu has been elected as the new President of India and became the country’s first tribal woman and second woman to achieve the top constitutional post. Draupadi Murmu was nominated from NDA for Presidential Election 2022 and had triumph over her political opponent Yashwant Sinha.

Draupadi Murmu:

Droupadi Murmu was born in a Santali family of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha on June 20, 1958. she pursued BA at Ramadevi Women`s College Bhubaneswar Murmu began her career as a school teacher but after she entered in the state politics.

Political Career:

Draupadi Murmu has served as Governor of Jharkhand. She had also created history by becoming the first President of Odisha of a major political party or alliance. She became the first woman governor of Jharkhand. She had served as Jharkhand Governor from 2015 to 2021.

She began her political career as Rairangpur NAC vice-chairman. She was elected as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur between 2000 and 2004. As a minister, she had portfolios of Transport and Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

Award and honor:

She had also been to MLA in the Odisha assembly from 2004 to 2009.

In 2007, the Odisha assembly esteemed her with the `Nilakantha Award for best MLA.

Draupadi Murmu had served as a junior assistant in Irrigation and Power Department between 1979 and 1983. She held several organizational posts in BJP and has been vice president of state ST Morcha in 1997. She had been a national executive member of BJP`s ST Morcha from 2013 to 2015 and served as BJP district chief of Mayurbhanj (West) in 2010 and 2013.

Between 2006 and 2009, she had been served as the chief of BJP`s ST Morcha in Odisha and also a member of the national executive of BJP ST Morcha from 2002 to 2009.

15th President of India:

She won the 2022 Presidential election with majority by defeating common opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha with 676,803 electoral votes (64.03% of total) in 21 of the 28 states to become the 15th President of India.

She will take oath of office on the Central Hall of Parliament by the chief justice of India NV Ramana.
