Foxconn investing Rs.1600 crore in Tamil Nadu
Taiwan-based Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up a new mobile components manufacturing facility at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore in Kancheepuram district. The project is expected to generate around more than six thousand jobs.
The meeting of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and chairman and chief executive officer of Foxconn organized where they signed a letter of intent for a new facility. The new centre will be built up near Foxconn’s existing unit at Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district. The current unit is assembling iPhone.
Expanding plans:
Foxconn is repeating its investments and expansion plans in Tamil Nadu. This second investment shows Tamil Nadu’s top selection choice for manufacturing in India for major companies across the world and it is a major achievement for Tamil Nadu state.
Tamil Nadu is remaining the top electronics exporter in the country and even registering significant increase its electronics exports in the coming years.
Clarification on Foxconn:
The clarification has been made by the Tamil Nadu government that Foxconn Hon Hai (FHH) and not Foxconn Industrial Internet (FII) has signed a letter of intent with the state to build a new facility for electronic components in the state.
The facility is totally different and separate from current unit near Chennai where Foxconn assembles Apple’s iPhones and employs more than 35,000 people.
