GIS Application ‘Gram Manchitra’ is launched by Ministry of Panchayati Raj

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has launched a Geographic Information System based application Gram Manchitra to encourage the spatial system of gram panchayats. This is an application which is based on a geographic information system(GIS).

The Gram Manchitra application comes with many beneficial facilities for Gram panchayats. This app empowers Gram panchayats in planning and performing at Gram panchayat level. It also facilitates Gram panchayats to use geo spatial technology.

Features of Gram Manchitra:

The Gram Manchitra application provides a visual version of various development projects in different sectors such as infrastructure, industry, education, Agriculture and also makes Gram panchayats capable of using a decision support system for Gram Panchayat Development Plan( GPDP).

Some important features of Gram Manchitra application are given below:

• Allows users to create detailed spatial maps of Panchayats.
• Identification of key geographic landmarks for development projects.
• Serves as a repository of information for diverse data types, including demographic information and infrastructure details.
• Provides visualizations for a better understanding of complex development projects.
• Facilitates real-time monitoring of ongoing projects.

• Enables prioritization of projects according to the unique needs of different areas within a Panchayat.

‘mActionSoft’ for geo tagging:

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has also launched a mobile based solution named mActionSoft which provides facility to capture photos with geo tags such as GPS coordinates. It is beneficial for those works which have an asset. This application is available on Gram Manchitra portal.

With this mobile based solutions geo tagging of assets becomes possible for Gram panchayats. The geo tagging with the help of mActionSoft is done in three stages:

• Before the commencement of development work
• During the process of work
• On the completion of that particular project

This system will provide all information related to natural resources management related works and projects like harvesting, irrigation, drought proofing, sanitation, Agriculture, dam related projects etc.

Other significance:

Those assets which come under the finance Commission funds will be geo tagged through this application by Gram panchayats. The captured data of geo tagged assets by using mActionSoft is available on Gram Manchitra to improve visualization of development projects.

The Gram Manchitra portal also provides various tools for Gram panchayats development like help to identify potential sites for various kinds of development projects, tracking of assets, projection of cost to complete the projects, and finally assessment of the impact of those particular projects.
