Historical scepter Sengol to be installed in new Parliament building

A historical scepter ‘Sengol’ is going to be installed in the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28. A historical scepter ‘Sengol’ is coming from Tamil Nadu.

The Sengol had been got by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to represent the transfer of power from the British. The government of India had preserved the Sengol in a museum in Allahabad.

Union home minister Amit Shah announced the installation of scepter in new parliament building and he also cleared the purpose of the installation. The representation of “Sengol” has the same feeling that Jawaharlal Nehru felt on August 14, 1947.

New Parliament building:

India is going to have new parliament building with modern and advanced features in it.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveiled the new parliament building on birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar 28th May.

Sengol’s installation ceremony:

The Sengol will be ceremoniously transported to the House in a grand procession during the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The occasion is likely to be trod in Tamil tradition.

The Sengol will be handed over to the prime minister after this idolized ceremony and placed in a glass case next to the Speaker’s seat in the House.

Traditional Chola practice:

The traditional Chola practice for spiritual leaders will be held to head the coronation of kings and sanctify the transfer of power, which is also considered a kind of recognition for the ruler.

This sengol, a Tamil word for sceptre, is a symbol of justice and good governance.

It was the head of ancient Shaivite math who had handed over the Sengol to Nehru in 1947.

As the Chola era tradition, the Sengol is representing the first Nehru standing for the transfer of power from the British to Indian hands.
