Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Emblem cast atop the new Parliament building. The inauguration event have been done after performing ceremonial prayers in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Harivansh Narayan Singh, Union ministers Pralhad Joshi and Hardeep Singh Puri, among others, in attendance.

New Parliament Building:

The National emblem set up atop the central foyer of the under-construction new Parliament building. The new parliament building is 33m from the ground level and work inaugurated on it in September last year, taking over nine months to complete. The total weight of the structure is 16,000kg with inclusion of the 9,500kg emblem.

The new Parliament building is being constructed close to the existing one at a cost of ₹971 crore.

The new Parliament building would have been the identity of self-reliant and new India. Even it might be witness the fulfillment of the hopes and aspirations of the people. The national emblem will always be splendid like a crown jewel.

The PM’s inauguration of the structure has been criticized by the Opposition parties.

Emblem structure:

The emblem was fractioned over 150 segments and set up on the roof. Work to assemble it started in end-April which takes two months to complete the work.

The metal sculpture has been made in Aurangabad, Jaipur and Delhi by artists Sunil Deore and Lakshman Vyas.

In its initial plan, the new Parliament decided to be crowned with a spire, but it was replaced with the design of the Ashoka emblem in 2020.

At the inauguration event, the prime minister has got interaction with (Shramjeevis) workers involved in the construction of the new Parliament. PM Modi tweeted about the interaction that “We are proud of their efforts and will always remember their contribution to our nation”.

The central foyer has been renamed the Constitution Hall as it is expected to display the Constitution for public viewing. A library will also built near the central foyer.
