Tuesday, in the bilateral meeting of India and Maldives, the both countries have signed a pact that confirms cybersecurity and moved forward to build a more strengthening relationship to fight with “terrorism and transnational crime” together. The optimistic behaviour of Maldives towards India has brightened up with the pact.
Maldives’ president, Ibrahim ‘ibu’ Solih showed appreciation for the help of India in the COVID-19 pandemic phase. India had lightened the burden of the stress in COVID period of Maldives by providing a lending craft and utility vehicles.
India’s Relations with Maldives:
India and Maldives have been in a strong relationship for centuries. They both share a connecting culture and respect each other’s diplomacy for years. They have come together many times to take new initiatives and steps to protect and encourage their participation in the relationship.
India has stood by the side of Maldives in the COVID period that had impacted the whole world’s economic situation. By providing vaccines India has helped other nations including Maldives to fight the pandemic phase.
India’s Other Helps to Maldives:
India has also funded the aspiring project of Maldives named GMCP- Greater Male Connectivity Project that connects Male the capital of Maldives with neighbouring Islands. The cost of this project is $500mn.
India has also provided a line of credit to Maldives with the cost of $100mn.
Maldives and India has also tied up for the exchange of information to stand against the terrorism and transnational crime along with they help each other to enhance their centuries old relationship.
By this pact, Maldives has referred India as its highest priority. The president of Maldives remarked that the relation between these two countries is beyond diplomatic relations. Given the reason, he said that the cultures of both countries are interconnected. Hence India and Maldives are going to take a step forward to reach their relationship to its high peak.
India has also decided to gift a second lending assault craft and 24 utility vehicles to Maldives National Defence Force. Maldives is also one the first countries that received the vaccine from India.
By signing this pact , Maldives and India will start a new journey of their successful bilateral relationship.
