India became 3rd highest producer of solar power
A recent report by international energy analytics agency Ember stated that India has overtaken Japan and became the third highest producer of solar power globally. As per the report, India has produced around 113 billion units of solar power in the year of 2023 and whereas Japan generated 110 billion units.
Installed power capacity:
If we talk about the installed power capacity India ranks fifth in the world and Japan ranks third with 83 gigawatt installed power capacity. The installed power capacity includes sources of renewable and non renewable energy, India stands at 73 gigawatt.
Reasons:
A country’s power demands and local circumstances can fluctuate the rising share of solar power and power production that further lead to a gap between produced power and installed capacity.
Power demand in Japan has witnessed a decrease in 2023 from 2021 and 2022 as it decreased by 2%. This is the main reason why India was able to overtake Japan and became the world’s 3rd highest producer of solar power.
World scenario:
The United States is on the second spot in the production of solar power. India will require more than double its current capacity to exceed the US and will need 228 billion units of solar power production.
China is the leader of solar power production globally as it generated 584 billion power in 2024. This is more than the next four following countries.
Around 30% of global electricity is produced by renewable sources of energy. The renewable sources of energy have witnessed the growth of 19% from 2000.
Conclusion:
Solar power is a renewable energy source, meaning it is continuously replenished by the sun’s rays. Unlike fossil fuels, which are finite and contribute to pollution and climate change, solar energy is abundant and clean.
