India is all set to become the 6th country in the world to have its own Deep Sea Mission
According to the statement of Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Earth Sciences, MoS PMO, Department of Atomic Energy and Department of Space and MoS Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, India is going to become the 6th country to have its own Deep Sea Mission.
The Deep Sea Mission is India has shown significant progress and placed India among few Nations who have achieved the target.
About Blue Economy:
The Blue Economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs, while preserving the health of ocean ecosystems. It encompasses a wide range of economic activities, including:
- Fisheries and Aquaculture
- Tourism
- Maritime transport
- Renewable energy
- Biotechnology
- Marine conservation
- Seabed mining
About Deep Sea Mission:
India’s Deep Ocean Mission, spearheaded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, is a comprehensive initiative aimed at exploring and harnessing the vast potential of the deep sea.
The mission was approved by the Indian government in June 2021 and is planned to be implemented over a period of five years, with a budget of approximately INR 4,077 crore (around USD 553 million).
