India observed Sadbhavna Diwas

India marks the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 20th August as Sadbhavna Diwas. Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister India till date. Today on 20th August 2022 India marks the 78th birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

Rajiv Ratna Gandhi was born in Mumbai to Indira Gandhi and Feroze Gandhi. After completing his studies at abroad he returned to India and took training as a pilot. Rajiv Gandhi married to Edvige Antonia Albina Maino who changed her name to Sonia Gandhi.

After the assassination of his mother Indira Gandhi he took the office of Prime Minister of India and become the youngest prime minister of India at the age of 40.

After the Consideration of Rajiv Gandhi’s dedication to the cause of peace, his birth anniversary is commemorated as Sadbhavna Diwas or Harmony day.

History and significance:

Harmony day was first observed in 1992, a year after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in Tamil Nadu. This day intends to disseminate the message of peace, harmony and goodwill. It sees for the Indian citizens to adopt the values of brotherhood and unity for the larger welfare of the society.

Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavna Award:

All India Congress Committee had first constituted the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavna Award in 1992.

The Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavna Award gives to pay tribute to the former Prime Minister for his contribution and dedication towards national integrity and communal peace.

Facts about Rajiv Gandhi:

After completion of his training as a pilot from the Flying Club in Delhi, Rajiv Gandhi was took job at Air India in 1970.

He was also an impassioned photography enthusiast. His book containing of his beautiful captures were published posthumously by his wife.

Rajiv Gandhi had been a magnetic personality and probably amongst the very few politicians who took to wheels by themselves during election rally.

He gave promise to remove corruption and his dedication towards him promise he was given the moniker of ‘Mr. Clean’.

Gandhi passed away in May 1991 after he was assassinated by a suicide bomber during his campaign in Tamil Nadu.
