India, Pakistan and Afghanistan felt earthquake tremors
Last evening (i.e. 21 March evening) strong tremors were felt in India and several other Asian countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan as a magnitude 6.5/6.6 earthquake struck Afghanistan.
Strong tremors had been felt in several parts of north India and even some western part of the country.
Epicenter of earthquake:
United States Geological Survey has reported that a magnitude of 6.5 quakes hit around 40 kilometres South-Southeast of Jurm in Afghanistan.
The earthquake took place at a depth of 156 kilometres below the ground.
India’s National Center for Seismology has also reported the details that, the magnitude of last evening quake was 6.6 and the location was 133 km SSE of Afghanistan’s Fayzabad.
Earthquake jolts in India:
- Strong tremors were experienced in North India including Delhi, Punjab and Uttarakhand even the national capital region including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram were also felt tremors.
- Quake jolts were also felt in many regions in Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, etc.
- Local people in Jammu & Kashmir sallied out from their homes as they felt tremors.
Earthquake in Afghanistan:
- As the earthquake’s epicenter was 40km (25 miles) southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm, near the borders with Pakistan and Tajikistan, it experienced much strong jolts.
- As per local information received from Afghanistan, at least four people were killed and 50 injured from jolts.
Earthquake in Pakistan:
- In northwest Pakistan, around nine people have been killed and 44 injured.
- Hospitals in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were standing by with a state of emergency overnight.
Spread of Earthquake:
- The quake had been felt spreading an area more than 1,000km (621 miles) wide by some 285 million people in Pakistan, India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.
- Pakistan’s Meteorological Department frame the magnitude slightly higher at 6.8 and later reported a 3.7 magnitude aftershock in the Hindu Kush region along the country’s border with Afghanistan.
- Starting of the tremor were felt in the Afghan capital ‘Kabul’ and many cities of Pakistani including Islamabad and Lahore.
