At the recently concluded FIDE World Cup 2023, India’s chess player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has rewritten history at the grandest stage of them all in world chess as he played out an epic final against Magnus Carlsen.

Praggnanandhaa finished the tournament as runner-up. He upstaged the likes of World No.3 Fabiano Caruana and World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura.

At the final match of FIDE World Cup 2023:

Praggnanandhaa has written a glorious chapter in Indian chess history. He was eventually defeated by Carlsen 1.5-0.5 in the tie-break as the Indian Grandmaster secured the second spot in the World Cup final.

Candidature for the next championship:

The Indian Grandmaster has sealed his spot for the Candidates 2024 tournament after the 18-year-old put up a show in the FIDE World Cup in Baku.

Praggnanandhaa becomes the second Indian player to fix his candidature.

He also becomes the third youngest player after legendary Bobby Fischer and Carlsen to qualify for the Candidates tournament.

Earning money for the tournament:

R.Praggnanandhaa has earned an amount of USD 80,000 or more than Rs.66 lakh for taking second place in the FIDE World Cup 2023. The winner of the World Cup title (Norway’s Carlsen) gained USD 110K for winning the World Cup title.

About R. Praggnandhaa:

Born: 10 August 2005

At the age of 10 years R. Praggnandhaa became the youngest international master. Even he became the second youngest grandmaster at the age of 12 in 2018).

R.Praggnanandhaa has also defeated world number one chess player Magnus Carlsen in February 2022.

R.Praggnanandhaa performed very well and defeated many legendary chess champions across the world.

The list of defeated players from the Indian Grandmaster includes Grandmaster of France Maxime Lagarde, Czech grand master David Navara, World No.2 player Nakamura and many more.

The Indian superstar then became the youngest player to reach the final clash of the World Cup with a thrilling 3.5-2.5 win over Caruana in the semi-final.

The World No. 1 chess player Magnus Carlsen has won the World Championship five times in his trophy-laden career.
