India is celebrating 8th International Yoga Day on 21 June 2022 with 75 iconic events at different locations across the country with the theme of ‘Yoga for Humanity’.
National Event attends by Prime Minister of India:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attended at a mass yoga demonstration on the eighth (8th) International Yoga Day on today (i.e. 21 June 2022) at Mysuru Palace Ground in Karnataka.
Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Mysuru royal scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, and “Rajmata” Pramoda Devi were presented at the event.
India is organizing and celebrating Yoga Day in the physical mode after a gap of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PM Modi also participated in the yoga day event with 15,000 participants.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi uttered that yoga is now be a global festival with India’s widespread acceptance of the ancient practice. He also informed about the acceptance of that amrit spirit of India which has given energy to India’s freedom struggle and its mass yoga manifestation has been organized at 75 iconic locations across the country.
About International Yoga Day:
The history of practicing Yoga in India is about to thousands of years ago but the concept International Yoga Day celebration was the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He directed whole idea in September 27, 2014 at The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during his address.
Taking cognizance of the widely applauded benefits and growing popularity of Yoga across the globe, United Nations announced June 21 as the International Day of Yoga on December 11 the same year.
Thus the International Day of Yoga is celebrated worldwide on 21 June since 2015 every year.

President of India at Yoga event:
Ram Nath Kovind, President of India has officially greeted people on the occasion of International Yoga Day. He stated that about a gift of Yoga from India to humanity and its holistic approach to health and well-being, balancing mind, body and soul. The president participated in Yoga Day event which has been organized at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
A flagship programme has been concluded in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs for a mass Yoga Protocol world over on the day following the movement of the sun.
