Directions (6 – 10): The line- graph shows the no. of students studying in three different streams i.e. Engineering, Medical and commerce in six different years and number of students studying commerce out of them in respective years.

Read the following graph and answer accordingly.

  1. Number of students in 2012 studying engineering is 100 more than that of medical student. Then find medical student is how much more or less than commerce student in 2012?

(a)140

(b)180

(c)170

(d)120

(e)160

Answer & Explanation
Ans. a

Exp.

No. of student studying Engineering and Medical together in 2012 = 740 – 120 = 620

Difference of Engineering and Medical student in 2012 = 100

∴ Engineering student in 2012 =  720/2  = 360

Medical student in 2012 = 260

Required different = 260 – 120 = 140.

  1. Ratio of number of student in engineering to that in medical in 2015 is 5 : 8. Then number of student in medical in same year is what percent of total student in 2015?

(a) 68%

(b) 64%

(c) 54%

(d)32 %

(e) 42%

Answer & Explanation
Ans. d

Exp.

Medical student in 2015 = (500 – 240) ×  8/13  = 160

Required % =  160/500×100 = 32%

  1. Number of students studying engineering in 2018 is 150 which is 75% of the medical student in 2017. Then find the ratio of engineering to commerce student in 2017?

(a) 3 : 5

(b) 1 : 2

(c) 2 : 3

(d) 3 : 4

(e) None of these

Answer & Explanation
Ans. b

Exp.

Engineering and Medical student in 2017 together = 440 – 160 = 280

Medical student in 2017 = 150×100/75  = 200

∴ Engineering student in 2017 = 280 – 200 = 80

∴ Required ratio =  80/160  = 1 : 2

  1. Total student studying all the three streams in 2011 is 30% more than total students studying all the three streams in 2014 and commerce student in 2011 is 4/5 th of commerce student in 2012. Find the average of total number of engineering and medical student in 2011 and 2015 together?

(a) 534

(b) 425

(c) 355

(d) None of these

(e) 364
