NRA CET Exam 2022-23

About NRA CET Exam

Union Cabinet approved a proposal to set up National Recruitment Agency that will conduct the Common Eligibility Test (NRA CET) for selection to non-gazetted posts in the central government and public sector banks. National Recruitment Agency (NRA) will conduct the Common Eligibility Test (NRA CET) Exam to select candidates for non-gazetted Group B and C posts of the government. First-level entrance exams (Prelims) conducted by various government organizations will be replaced by the NRA CET. NRA CET will be conducted separately for graduate, 12th pass, and 10th pass students depending upon the educational qualifications and difficulty level. NRA CET will be as a preliminary screening test to select aspirants for the next stage (mains).

The NRA CET will make sure that the aspirants don’t have to appear for multiple preliminary exams for various posts. NRA CET will lessen the burden on the aspirants and will also save money. The NRA CET score will be valid for 3 years. Aspirants can apply for the next level exam (mains) of different posts based on their NRA CET score. NRA CET is planned to be conducted two times a year.

What is the NRA?

NRA stands for National Recruitment Agency. The government has set up a National Recruitment Agency to recruit candidates for non-gazetted posts of government departments. A single agency NRA has been set up to conduct a computer-based common test for different organizations like IBPS, RRBs, and SSC.

NRA would work as an independent agency. The agency is expected to work in a manner similar to the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Which are the Non-Gazetted posts?

Non-gazetted jobs are the government jobs or posts which do not give the person the authority to issue an official stamp on the behalf of the government. In terms of types of jobs, this includes Group B, Group C, and Group D government jobs.

What is the advantage of the NRA CET?

The advantages of NRA include –

The exams and the other recruitment processes for SSC and railways which takes a lot of time, will be faster like IBPS. At present, candidates have to appear in different exams like SSC, Railways, IBPS, etc. which costs a lot of time. After the setup of NRA, money and time both will be saved as a single computer-based online Common Eligibility Test will be conducted.

What is the Common Eligibility Test?

One Common Eligibility Test (CET) will be conducted in place of various Preliminary exams (Tier-1 exam) which were previously conducted by IBPS, RRBs and SSC, and the CET score will be given to the candidate which will be valid for 3 years. Separate CETs will be conducted for graduate and matric level examinations. The list of Qualifying candidates of the CET will be forwarded to different agencies to conduct the mains exam separately. The CET score can also be used by private organizations. The NRA CET exam will be conducted in 12 languages. The NRA CET exam will be conducted two times in a year. The NRA will set up Test centers in every district. The NRA CET exam will come into effect from next year i.e.2021.

Why this NRA CET is introduced?

The reason for NRA CET is to lessen the burden on aspirants. Currently, there are about 1.25 lakh vacancies in the Central government, at the Group B and C level, often known as non-gazetted officers. About 2.5 crore young men and women apply every year for examinations to fill these vacancies, also appearing for 50 other recruitment tests for positions at public sector banks, railways, police, paramilitary forces and other State and Central government bodies. The recruitment cycle takes at least 18 months and is often spoiled by clashing dates, leaked papers and examination scams.

A Common portal for NRA CET

Under the new NRA CET system, candidates will apply through a common NRA CET registration portal, paying a single entrance fee. They will prepare for a common curriculum. Examination centres for NRA CET exam will be set up in each district, with the Centre committing to invest in the necessary infrastructure for 117 aspirational districts. A standardized question bank with multiple questions of similar difficulty levels will be created in a central server. An algorithm will be used to jumble and dole out different questions, so that each candidate receives a different question paper, reducing the chances of cheating and paper leakage.

NRA CET Scores will be generated quickly, delivered online and be valid for a three-year period. Students can write the NRA CET test multiple times as long as they are within the eligible age limit, with their best CET score being taken into account. Ultimately, the aim is to allow examination by appointment at the convenience of candidates. For now, however, the NRA CET examination will be held once a year.
