Ordinance bill to stop Delhi services
Indian parliament is going to introduce the Bill to replace the Centre’s Ordinance on control of services in Delhi.
The Government of India has an agenda for near term to introduce the bill in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Minister of state for parliamentary affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal communicated Lok Sabha of the government’s business on Friday and mentioned that the bill is on the official agenda next week.
Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan has informed Rajya Sabha about the government’s business for the coming week.
The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 looks for replacing the ordinance brought by the Centre in May which excluded ‘services’ from the legislative competence of the Delhi legislative assembly.
The ordinance was taken days after the judgment of Supreme Court on the control of services in Delhi.
Oppose of the bill:
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is opposing the bill and asked all oppositions parties’ support against the Ordinance.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called upon Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena for suspense to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, in the Lok Sabha.
Controversy on the bill:
The ordinance is clashing the power tussle between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor.
The controversial bill created a massive face-off between Delhi government and central government.
Supreme court’s point:
The Supreme Court had already given its decision in favour of the Delhi government and directs to take control all services in the national capital except to public order, land and police.
