PM Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana crossed the target of 1000 cr medicine sales

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana has achieved another milestone after it declared the data of sales of generic medicines under the scheme which has crossed the mark of 1000 cr in FY 2023-24.

If we talk about the overall performance of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana in the past 9 years after the commencement approximately 25000 cr have been saved through this government Initiatives.

About the achievement:

This is the first time in the history of generic medicines in the country that the medicines worth of 1000 cr have been sold out in a financial year under a government scheme. This achievement was made possible because of the citizens of India who have enthusiastically participated in this initiative.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana by purchasing medicines from Jan Aushadhi Kendras Indian people have saved approximately 5000 cr. More than 785 districts across the country have these Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

The booming growth of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana clearly proves the commitment of providing medicines and services to various communities and serving a broader audience.

Jan Aushadhi Kendras:

If we scale a comparison in the past 9 years the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has increased to 100% as there were 80 Jan Aushadhi Kendras in 2014 and today in 2023 there are around 10000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country.

The 10000th Jan Aushadhi Kendra is established at AIIMS in Deogarh district, Jharkhand inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 30th November 2023.

The government’s aim to achieve the target to establish around 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country for broader outreach of public and ease the accessibility of medicines for the people of the country has started its journey of destination. The government has set this target to establish 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country by March 2026.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana there are 10000 functional Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country and 1963 types of generic medicines along with 293 surgical devices related to Cardiovascular, Anti-cancers, Anti-diabetics, Anti-infectives, Anti-allergic, Gastro-intestinal medicines, Nutraceuticals, etc.

Apart from that there are a total of 5 warehouses under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana across the country mainly in Gurugram, Bengaluru, Chennai, Guwahati and Surat. These warehouses are supported by an inventory management system.

There are also 36 distributors under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana to provide medicines in remote and rural areas across the country.
