President of India approved 76 gallantry awards
The President of India Droupadi Murmu has approved 76 gallantry awards with inclusion of 4 Kirti Chakras posthumously and 11 Shaurya Chakras to personnel of the security forces, on the eve of the 77th Independence Day.
Gallantry awards:
The Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra and Vir Chakra were established by the government of India as the first three gallantry awards on 26th January, 1950.
After some time, another three gallantry awards were established which was renamed as Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra in January 1967.
The President of India Draupadi Murmu approved gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel.
There are 2 Bar to Sena Medals, 52 Sena Medals, 3 Nao Sena Medals and 4 Vayu Sena Medals. Out of the 11 Shaurya Chakras there have been 5 named posthumously.
War time Gallantry Awards:

Param Vir Chakra:
India’s highest military decorated award is Param Vir Chakra which is given for displaying distinguished acts of valor during wartime whether on land, at sea or in the air.

Maha Vir Chakra:
It is the second highest gallantry award during war time.

Vir Chakra:
The country’s third highest wartime gallantry award is Vir Chakra which is also given for extraordinary courage and exceptional actions to the nation.
Peacetime Highest Gallantry Awards:

Ashoka Chakra:
During the peacetime Ashok Chakra is given for valor, courageous action or sacrifice.
Ashok Chakra is the highest military award in the non-war time.
The award is given to the most conspicuous bravery or some act of daring or pre-eminent act of valor or self-sacrifice otherwise than in the face of the enemy.

Kirti Chakra:
The second highest peacetime gallantry award is Kirti Chakra which is awarded for exceptional act of courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the field of battle.
- Shaurya Chakra:
It is third highest peacetime gallantry award.
Mention-in-Despatches:
The President of India had also approved 30 Mention-in-Despatches to the Army. In the 30 Mention-in-Despatches Army dog named Madhu (posthumous) has also been included.
There is 1 to Air Force personnel for their significant contributions in different military operations.
Havildar Vivek Singh Tomar has been given the award for displaying distinctive raw courage and extreme bravery with utter disregard to personal safety leading for the safety of life of his comrades.
