The prestigious President’s Colour has been awarded to President of India Ram Nath Kovind today (25 March 2022) to Indian Naval Ship (INS) Valsura in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The President’s Colour is conferred to a military unit to recognize exceptional service delivered to the nation, both in peace and in war.

Award Ceremony:

A parade ceremony was held to mark the occasion and around 150-men guard of honour was presented to the President. INS Valsura was established in 1942 as a premier training establishment of the Indian Navy.

It is committed with the responsibility of imparting training to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and some friendly foreign countries in electrical, electronics, weapon systems and information technology.

President’s Colour:

  • The President’s Colour Award is the highest honor that can be contributed upon any military unitof India. It is also known as ′Nishaan′ which has an emblem that will be put on by all unit officers on the left-hand sleeve of their uniform.
  • To this day, the President’s Colours is very significant, if the unit shed their colours, it is a discredit for that unit and, if the unit captured the enemy’s colours then it is a great honour for that unit.
  • The ‘Standards’ are presented to Heavy Cavalry and the ‘Guidons’ are presented to Light Cavalry.
  • The Indian Navy was the first branch of the Indian Armed Forces which has to be awarded the President’s Colour by the then President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on May 27, 1951.

  • Indian Naval Ship Valsura is “stone frigate” (shore establishment) of the Indian Navy.
  • INS Valsura is located in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • In INS Valsura It works as a premier technological training institution; it houses the Electrical school of the Indian Navy.
  • INS Valsura was presented an award of a Special Unit Citation in December 2001 which is an honour normally given to only for operational units. The base of INS Valsura has developed into a large township with a military hospital and schools.
