Sub schemes:

The scheme includes five continuing sub schemes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. These scheme are –

  • Atmosphere & Climate Research-Modelling Observing Systems & Services (ACROSS)
  • Ocean Services, Modelling Application, Resources and Technology (O-SMART)
  • Polar Science and Cryosphere Research (PACER)
  • Seismology and Geosciences (SAGE)
  • Research, Education, Training and Outreach (REACHOUT)

Objectives:

There are some main objectives of the PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI) scheme of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. These objectives are given below:

  • Focusing on the service of societal, environmental and economic benefits, the translations of knowledge related to the Earth system.
  • Technology development for sustainable growth, exploration and harnessing the power of oceanic resources for societal Services and benefits
  • For the discovery of new resources, exploration of the high sea regions of the earth
  • To predict the weather conditions, climate hazards, Ocean difficulties and to understand the science of climate change, development of Modeling system
  • To record the important sign of the Earth system and climate change, argumentation of long term observation including atmosphere, ocean, geosphere, cryosphere and solid earth.

Benefits of PRITHVI scheme:

By the proper implementation of PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI) scheme, the earth and India can get numerous benefits. These benefits include weather forecasts, warnings for Natural disasters, alerts for Tsunamis and earthquake monitoring etc.

These Services through the scheme are provided by the Ministry of Earth Sciences to needed institutions such as India Meteorological Department (IMD), National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), National Centre for Seismology (NCS), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), Goa, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) etc and state governments to save the human lives and provide a better environment to live.

Conclusion:

Under the Earth system there are a total of five components such as atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, cryosphere, and biosphere. The PRITHVI scheme will take care of all these five components by fulfilling the objectives to attain the benefits of the earth science system into societal Services, environmental Services as well as economic Services.
